Just got home . . . my son and I drove the 2½ hours N.W. to Kingman, AZ for a Gun Show. It's our first time for this show, held at the Mojave Fair Grounds. It was one of the smaller shows we've been to but they had a good turn out. My biggest problems was that I didn't take enough cash with me. There were two different pistols I sure would liked to have brought home but I was not prepared (bad planning on my part).
The real interesting thing was a good news / bad news issue. The good news was there was plenty of ammunition offered by a number of vendors. The majority was by individuals selling private inventories. The bad news was the prices! We saw 9mm range ammunition as high as $1.35 a round and 45 ACP ball ammunition as high as $1.65 a round. There was 5.56 Nato going as high as $1.15 a round. We even saw .264 Winchester Magnum for $2.95. As an interesting side note, we did not see anyone buying any ammunition . . kind of makes you wonder.
Reloading supplies were very limited, one booth had a good selection of common, current powders but the prices were running $40 to $45 per pound. Only one guy selling primers and it was the most ridiculous price of the whole show . . . Winchester Large Rifle Primers with an asking price of $125.00 / 1000. I remember raising hell when they went up to $28 / 1000 and that wasn't that long ago.
There were plenty of firearms available but we didn't see any "good deals" on anything (new or used).
Our local gun shops have extremely limited inventories so it was good to see that there is ammunition out there. Even with the ammunition shortage our local shops are not gouging (in most cases). I know them and we've had business relationships built over the years.
Our local gun show is next weekend, it will be interesting how the prices and availabilities look. It is a much larger show.
