Hi sportsfans ! I just got a heads up from Ruger that there's an issue with their Ruger 57-possible cracking of the safety. Usually Hacker picks these up, but you may want to check their information out. To coin a phrase, "Let's be careful out there !"

Yes Pooh I did get the same notice as I just got on to view my email. So Larry hope you see this as I know you have one of these so you would want to check the numbers on your gun. So here's the link. www.ruger.com/dataProcess/ruger57retrofit/

My Ruger 57 is within the suspect serial number group. My inspection (per Ruger's instructions) finds no issue with my specific gun. As part of covering their hindquarters, they say regular inspection of the gun should be part of regular use and maintenance. This gun was manufactured locally (just 7 miles across the open prairie or 18 miles by highway). I'm going to see if I cam talk with someone at Ruger about longevity. From the reports I have seen it sounds like metal fatigue could play a part in the failure.

So with that Larry are you going to send yours in and have them do the work that they say needs to be done?

What Hacker said. My suggestion is that it might be protection for you on some future sale of it. Back in the day, if you had a problem with a Ruger, you could drive over to Newport (New Hamster) and hand it to some guy at the back door, and he'd either fix it right then or mail it to you ! (Same deal at Thompson Center !) Don't try that now !

It seems the days of walking in to Ruger and handing a problem gun to someone are gone. It takes a Material Return Authorization and sending them via FedEx now days. I spent a long (l-o-o-o-n-g) time on the phone with a fella' in New Hampshire (even though the gun was manufactured here in Prescott, Arizona) and he swears that if the gun passes their "self performed" test it is okay. He went so far as to say the failure will show up right out of the box and that is is not an issue of ware or time. I've done the test many times in the past few days and my gun seems okay. Somewhat reluctantly I will keep the gun and . . . .
