OK a scavenger hunt of components what is Hacker talking about now. Well with the plandemic/scamdemic and the current political climate that is surounding us. You know that firearm sale have exploded in the past year and a half. So with that ammo and reloading components have been very very hard to come buy. Everywhere you go local or on line out of stock here out of stock there also I see no backorder. I have had some luck in getting some items but boy what a chore looking for them. When I bought my Ruger Redhawk in 41mag the shop right away said we have no ammo. I stated I'll get components and go from there. Well that was a challenge. Trip to Cabela's wow found Hornady XTP and Starline brass. Was weeks to come across W296 at a LGS. I was lucky to order from Starline some more brass and from Grafs & Sons some cast bullets. This was all late in 2020. This year has been more difficult in finding items. Took me looking days at a time to see if anything would come up that was in stock. Found a 8lb of powder at Powder Valley that well was not on my list but will work in my son in laws 6.5 Gredmoor. I now see that Hodgdon sells direct to the consumer but that is rationed to so much a month. So I order some pistol powder that is Ramshot yes that and Accurate is sold on their site. The oldest daughter got a Bersa Thunderer in 380acp. Yes you guessed took awhile to find Win brass as Starline was backorder. Dies was a real chore everyone was out and no backorder but Optics Planet had what I wanted and is now backordered.Who knows when they get in and shipped. I was able to get some bullets from Midsouth Shooters in 9mm and 40cal and bullets for the 380. Even bullet molds have not been immune to this as I'm looking for 41 molds. Oh and primers have been listed as out of stock each place I look. So anyone else participating in the scavenger hunt??

Hacker, I think we're all, to one extent or another, in the same boat. A few months ago, I decided I needed a winter project and bought a used Ruger American in .308. The price was right, and one of the things I took into account was I had molds, bullets and brass with which to feed it for the foreseeable future. Had I gotten some other caliber, I'd have been in the hurt locker. My scavenger hunt is a little more free form than what you describe. If I stumble into something that isn't priced too badly, I will grab it. As an example, I use CCI #11 magnum percussion caps in my TC muzzleloader. They set off Pyrodex reliably. I found a display of them at a shop and grabbed a bunch. It takes an awareness of where the holes in your inventory are, patience to scout out sources, and a little luck... This isn't the time I'd look at something strange to me. I've been scouting yard sales and estate sales, with little luck. On the defensive end, I've been a little slower to shoot just for fun. Revisiting the days of hold and squeeze is good for me ! So, I imagine we're all doing pretty much the same. Sounds like you.ve had some good results ! One source you might look at is Everglades Ammo. I've had good luck with them in the past, and they actually have some stuff in stock. I happened to look at them the other day because a friend of my son got his wife a .380 and has nothing to shoot out of it. www.evergladesammo.com/

Pooh I peek my syes into Everglades Ammo from time to time to see what they have. Yes I have had some luck but primers seem almost nonexistent and that includes the European ones a well. I have a small supply of primers but if I load what I want to get done that will drop it down and would have to limit my range time as to save in case of future dilemmas.

I think we're all in the same boat no matter the ocean, lake or river we're floating on. I have been fortunate to swap a brick of CCI 250 primers for a brick of 200s with a friend and got some of the last Barnes bullets I need for hunting. I now am trying to scrounge >270 Nosler brass for mu 6.5-270 imp. With regard to powders I'm ok for a while due to experimenting I still have a stock of shootable powders.

As a result of lessons from the big shortages of the past (2016 and others) I am in good shape for the foreseeable future but I have been on the watch for anything I can make use of at “close to” reasonable prices. My big challenge was acquiring ammo and components for my new 10mm Auto. It was a bad time to add a caliber to my mix but I have that issue under control for now. I have been in touch with some old contacts that I haven’t dealt with in years. It has lead to some interesting and long over due visits. Some at manufacturing and distributing levels as well as old gun store friendships as a result of moving around the country over the years. That has been a very positive thing coming out of our troubles. Another positive is working with some of the clubs and shooting groups and the willingness to share. Overall the shooting family has a lot of really nice, good people. My wife is active in “A Girl and a Gun” and there are a number of relatively new shooters, most shooting 380 Auto. We have made some connections and have been able to keep the ladies in ammo for now. The sad part is the outlandish prices of things at gun shows and some of the price gouging shops. I am keeping track of them so I won’t be doing business with them in the future. All in all . . . I have done okay and have been able to help a few people out too so I can’t really complain. Hang in there guys . . . be safe . . . and Keep Your Powder Dry!

An update gentlemen. I finally found 380 ACP dies from Titan Reloading. They had in stock the Lee 4-Die set and I quickly ordered. The dies and another item is scheduled to be delivered Tue. or Wed.

I hope it doesn't get "Lost In The Mail". No end in sight. Reluctant to use up my stashed components. Already being hit up for deer season ammo. Too many kids, spouses and grandkids that hunt. Made a trip to the local range. No brass to pick up. Got a bucket of wheel weights, could start casting, but don't want to deplete my powder and primers. We need a change in leadership.

Well some items seem to be easing up some. I have finally got the two powders that I've been looking out for and those I had to get in the one pound size and you're restricted to five. Bullets are easing some what also. Now primers are another story so far. Everywhere I look out of stock. I am looking for Win LP or CCI 350 mag primers. I have a small amount of Win LP and a couple thousanf S&B LP primers That I use in the 45ACP. The WIN and CCI I'm needing for my 41mag.

We (loaders) are a minority of shooters, and margins are better on loaded ammunition, so that market is going to have to reach some sort of equilibrium before components start to flow. Primers are the big problem-I'm being careful with what I have. I've been haunting the various sites for a Sierra 150gr flat nose that works well here in New Hamster. I have some, but had hoped to work up a different load. I'm sticking with the current one for now. Keep on scrounging !

Hi Hacker, good suggestion. Loading for a 30-30 Contender Carbine. The bullet also works on those occasions when I go supersonic in the 300 Whisper barrel. I'm good for now-the load works, and I'll just stand pat for now. I like the bullet and have an irrational attachment to Sierras. (I've also shot my share of Horandys and been happy with them as well !) I've got enough to scare Bambi for the next several years if I'm careful ! Thanks !

Pooh ~ I've got an unopened box (100) of Sierra 150gr. Spitzer B.T. #2125 and the same basic design from Hornady #3033 if either of those will help. The only R.N. I have in that weight is the Hornady #3035. Let me know if it turns out that you need any of them. It's not my intention to sell off inventory but if anyone in this family is in need I would make them available. Although I have given up hunting and just punch paper these days I totally understand the value and need to load to a proven or favorite recipe. It would be a shame to mess up a hunt because of component shortages. The primer and or powder issue is more difficult to address due to shipping restrictions

Thanks, Larry ! I'm not without, but I appreciate the gesture. I've got other .30 cal stuff I could use, as well, but the bullet in question, Sierra #2000, is, in my opinion, the ultimate New Hamster deer bullet. They'll show up eventually. In the meantime, if anyone else has a particular number needed, I'll echo Larry's kind offer. We'll get through this !

Since I live in and hunt primarily in the state of confusion I too have a small stash of "extras" in 24,25,26,27.28, 30 and 32 Caliber bullets. These are mostly in green boxes and mid to heavy for caliber and available to "us".
