Got a great opportunity for my 4-H kids; Brier Rabbit Shooting Club (South of Zanesville OH) asked if the kids would help keep score at some of their sporting clay’s events and they would allow them to shoot the mid range course for free (just have to supply our own ammo). That is 50 clay’s per kid and none of them have ever shot at anything more than clay’s being tossed by a due all ¾ cock trap.
I am working on a deal with Dan, Brier Rabbit’s owner, into sponsoring our club and shooting events, inviting other 4-H clubs for some friendly competition. This is a great club: 300yd (soon to be 400yd) rifle range, 9 lane pistol range, rifle and pistol steel range, trap field, 5 stand and sporting clay range. With this only 30 min from the gun club we are at, it looks like a great match for all.
Had to stop off at Wally-World yesterday (Ugggggg) and found 100 round boxes of Fed field loads for $19.98 a box, so with the clubs check book in my pocket, I will be heading back soon.
Will keep ya posted on how this goes.

What a really great evening, had the kids taking rifle out on the range yesterday and got the big guns out: Rem 700 Varmint 22-250 and SPS .308. 2 of my girls (both only about 100lbs each) shot them both for the first center fire rifle. One shot a ½” 3 shot group and the other shot just under an 1” at 100yds with the 22-250, they opened up some with the .308 but still shot it 2 times both. Will have them back out for rifle again tonight and Wen, getting ready for county judging next month. As much as I love working with the kids, will be glad when State fair is over and we can get back to shooting for fun and getting ready for our youth hunts. 2 of the girls and 1 boy will be going out for their first hunt this fall: looks like another great Sep 1st as I am off and will be out looking for some dove’s to speed on their way.

Thanks for all you do to help support the Youth Shooting Sports. Getting our Youth involved is the key to our future in protecting our rights and for promoting the shooting sports.
Thanks again; Ken

Wow, what a great day (even if I never got to shoot a gun). Anyone near Zanesville, OH and looking for a great place to shoot, Brier Rabbit is it: they have 7 3gun/pistol ranges with steel, a 400yd (soon to be about 500yd with about a 20* downhill angle), a 5 stand and trap field with a great 14 station sporting clay range on about a 1/2 mile walk. The day started out on the wrong foot: ½ the kids backed out at the last second and we showed up with more parents then kids: 3 kids and 6 parents. So we get there and are split up into groups to go to 5 locations to learn how to run the sporting clay range and score, most of us was doing that about half way through the 100 clays. The 2 of the 3 mothers, had not shot at clays (my wife shoots some with us on the farm) but all 3 are ready to give it a try after spending the day helping with the event. My eviltwin did not let me down as he is chomping at the bit to get out there but Hurricane (one of my first year kids) don’t even like shooting a shotgun but after today, she is hooked!!! Well for our help today, the club is giving my 4-H club 900 clays and the use of any range they have. I am really looking forward to getting more of our kids and parents there for the shoot on Aug 31st. Now one of the best parts (after seeing the ladies and kids get so excited about shooting like this) is the fact that the range is just 20 min further down the road then the range we are using now. I am going to start talking with the Ohio state shooting sports instructor about setting up a 1 day event to invite all the 4-H clubs in our district for a match and see about getting some trophies sponsored to give out next year for this. After talking with the owner of this place, he is more than willing to help in any way he can.
