Well gentlemen I made it to the range yesterday and got to shoot the bolt single 22lr pistol. I was not happy how it/I shot at 25yds. I would shoot a nice group for a couple then a crappy one. I kept adjusting to get to center but again a couple nice then a crappy group. I and the son-in-law planned to go to the range to get the youngest grandson some shooting in and to get his Crickett riffle on target. I also wanted to fine tune my single shot to improve on yesterday. So I got the stuff out to clean the bore and while doing so found out why it shot good then bad. I found the scope base was loose. So the first step in the fine tuning process was to get the blue Locktite out and secures the screws at 20 inch pounds. Next in the process was shoot on target and adjust. I am now getting under inch groups at 25yds and in center. The gun seems to like Federal. Winchesters would stick in chamber and had to use a cleaning rod to remove. Oh and the Win. shot good not great but good. I have some CCI on hand to try out in it and I have no Rem. to try.

Sounds like you are back in the saddle. I haven't shot in months......maybe this is it for me......shooting-wise. Fraid I'm feeling old......even uninterested.....the horrors! Never thought that could happen. Hope it's a temporary illness.

GW, it is just a phase that a lot of us older gentlemen go through. Hacker have you "miked" the Winchester cartridges before firing for comparison with the Federals? Sounds as though you are getting back on track anyway!

Give me a place to stand and a long-enough lever, and I will invariably break the lever.

Hacker, you're not the first to get snookered by a sight base. I was shaking out loads for a .222 one time-multiple groups, big production. Started well, and then all over the place. I was convinced that overnight I had become the world's worst rifleman. I was getting ready to sell my stuff and take up knitting, when I discovered the culprit. Wasn't sure if that didn't aggravate me more ! A nyway, I'm not making scarves these days !
Greg, I'm hoping that some kid will ask you for guidance. That'll get you up and running for sure !
