Well guys I going to do some upgrading to two of my handguns. The Ruger Redhawk and the bolt action 22lr single shot. This past Monday I received a rail for the Ruger and scope for the 22 a 2-7X32. The Ruger was used and came with a 2X Nikon on it and took that off and put it on the 22. I have two red dot sights and wanted to put a dot sight on the Ruger. I looked on line and found ones that go from muzzle to rear sight. This type you remove the front sight and the rear sight to install the rail. Didn't want all that bother so I looked some more and found one that goes where the Ruger rings would attach and you remove nothing. I put that on and have a Leapers Red Dot sitting on it. Now the scope that came with rings is going on that single shot after the small game season is over. I won't be using the rings but they can be put on something else. I got both from Hammers. hammersbinoculars.stores.yahoo.net/stsiscadbara.htmlhammersbinoculars.stores.yahoo.net/haloeyerepis1.html Next on the list for the single shot is a Quick Detach Sling Swivel Set for Picatinny Rail as it has a short underside rail. and to get a swivel stud put in the bottom of the grip. hammersbinoculars.stores.yahoo.net/qdpubuqude1s.html I also will in the next month get a chest style holster for the Ruger than can accommodate it with the Red Dot.

Well guys this is an update to this. I finally got to the range to get the red dot that I mounted on the Ruger Redhawk in 41mag sighted to 25yds. Every thing held together. The rail and dot did not move on me and I spent 18 to 24 rounds on target to get to minute of Bambi. I also took along my S&W Sigma in 40S&W to see how it shot since I replaced the polymer guide rod with a stainless steel one and it did good. I had one fail to fire and jam the gun but it was my load and not the rod. I'll have to go over that round to see what gives. Now for that bolt 22lr single shot handgun I have gotten some holster/chest and shoulder rigs and having hard time with the 2-7 scope on it. I am going to get a set of Williams fire sights for it and hope that works out which also means another trip to the range to sight it in again at 25yds.

Sounds like you made out well with the red dot. What kind is it ? I've been amazed at how I've taken to them. I've used the Burris Fast Fire, II and III.

Pooh I have a "Leapers" on the 41 mag. I also put a "Sight Mark" SM14000 on the single shot 30/30. Will post on the 30/30 later after range time.

Bob, I think they're worth a look. I've got one on a contender in 357 max, a Contender Carbine in 30-30, and a .308 Savage project rifle. All have held up well. I think Dan was right when he said they aren't the utmost in precision at long ranges, but you can get a shot on target in jig time. (I won't mention the 3/4" group I got with the Savage...) For my part of New Hamster, where shots over a hundred are rare, it seems like a good tool. Not the only tool, mind you, but a good one.
Hacker, what's your area like ? Long shots, short shots ?

Pooh as for long or short shots I hunt in varying area. Now I do most of my hunting in the woods where shots are 75yds. and in. I do sit at the edge of fields at times and shots can go out to 250yds. I have yet to go over 175yds.

Most all of my telescope sights are equipped with what used to be known as "Lee Dot", now I think just target dot. I have the 2' dot and it is quick on target as you said pooh. I believe we aren't talking about the same sight though.

Basically, different paths to the same Nirvana, Bob. I'm using the reflex sights. I'm trading off magnification for something very light and compact. For me, it's almost like an aperture sight on steroids. If you stumble on one at your LGS or on the range, I think it's worth a look-see. It's worked for me, but there are people who live long and happy lives without such contraptions !
