I received my Lyman 51 the other day. A quick inspection shows new cartridges, 25 more powders and 48 fewer pages haven't had time to really compare with the 50 yet. I listed this earlier but piggy backed on the Western Powder thread, on its own now.

Bob ~ I goy my #51 a while back and haven't found anything missing . . . the fewer pages didn't take anything I need so far Somehow I ended up with a hardback book; all the other Lyman manuals are paperback. With their full-size format I prefer the paperback.

Larry, i almost went for the hardbound version but given your comment I'm glad I didn't. I just can't believe the number of powders that are made now and not just compared to when I started loading. Also the number of cartridges has increased almost exponentially, it's mind boggling.

I too have been boggled by the growth.

Give me a place to stand and a long-enough lever, and I will invariably break the lever.

I guess it's fun having new stuff to try, but it seems to me that the more variety, we lose the benefit of economies of scale, and price goes up. I have the same feeling about the proliferation of "new" cartridges that really only differ a little bit in case shape. Ok, I'm being a Monday Grump !

I am confident that the paper targets don’t know the difference but I have wondered if the deer, elk, varmints, etc. notice any difference when hit by the “latest” case, powder or bullets ? ? ?
