Well this Sat. the 9th is the last day of our rifle season here in PA. Hoping to get out with a couple of the grandsons. Now the day after Christmas starts our flintlock season here and runs to Jan. 15th. I picked up a new Traditions flintlock yesterday along with a couple flints. The rest to follow with the help of my hunting buddy. My grandson that got his doe has his muzzle loader license and he can go along.

Is your flintlock season restricted to smoothbore ? There are a bunch of different seasons in PA-glad you have the chances, but I'd be hard put to keep track of then all ! Nice thing about flintlocks (other than the whole Rube Goldberg thing before it goes off) is that you don't have to worry about using up your primers !

Hacker,Isn't that one of those guns that you hafta pull he trigger on almost before you see the deer? In any case good luck and enjoy your time in the woods with grandson and good friends.

Pooh our flintlock season one uses one that has rifling. Now years ago you were to use round ball only. That has changed so you can use conical or round ball. I plan on using round ball as I got four boxes in a deal when I bought a guy's rimfire ammo. I also found out that my youngest grandson has his muzzle loader license so he gets to go with pap as well.

Hacker, I don't mind casting (in fact, the Lee roundball molds are great !) but if you keep your eyes open it's amazing how many partial boxes are kicking around, cheaper than I can cast them. It's especially nice with the cap and ball revolvers. If you go to a conical, what do you think you'd use ? I've shot the Maxi Ball and the Maxi Hunter out of the flintlock, more to see if it could be done.
