On March 29, 1911 the "Model of 1911" pistol, made by Colt, was offically adopted as the U.S. Army's standard sidearm.

Give me a place to stand and a long-enough lever, and I will invariably break the lever.

How about some pictures.....I once had a Colt Gold Cup 70 series but sold it and bought a Kimber I didn't feel guilty to shoot.
This is where John Browning grew up.....his daddy's gun shop in Nauvoo Ill. built on to his house, both now a museum.....he learned well.....
Some of his Daddy's "inventions"..... Wiki said, "He (John Moses) made his first firearm at age 13 in his father's gun shop and was awarded the first of his 128 firearm patents on October 7, 1879, at the age of 24."
One of John Moses's many inventions, this one personally delivered to the government ..... The BAR. Don't know who the man on the right is.
The M2 50 cal heavy machine gun was his too....The famous "Ma Deuce"!
Below, one of his Dad's inventions....Jonathan's revolving rifle....
