Yes it has been over a year since I was to a gun show. Yesterday the April 20th I had a nice outing with my hunting buddy and my son-in-law my daughter their two boys and the youngest grand daughter. Again with shows of the past prices were OK to Nope. I bought A-Zoom snap caps for my Stevens 16ga SxS and three ammo boxes made by Plano for the 41mag. These were the 100rd type. I do have a few of their 50 rounders for the 41 as well. Now I did come across a table with M1 carbines and M1 Garands. About three or four of each. Now come the interesting part the lowest priced M1 carbine was $2,199 and the upper one was just under 3 grand. Now I'm going to guess you're thing what for jaw dropping prices for the Garands were. Well guys they had a lower price than the carbines. Yes as I found that amazing myself. The upper Garand that I saw on the tale was just under 2 grand just about $1,900. Almost bought a Ruger 10-22 that had the blued metal butt plate for just over $220. I did see other 10-22s but were over $350.

Give me a place to stand and a long-enough lever, and I will invariably break the lever.

Hacker, did you see any trend in primers ? Interesting observation regarding pricing of carbines. Were those some special lot, matching parts or something. Might be a factor that CMP still has Garands, but last I checked, any carbines were on the auction site. Kind of a shock-when I was a kid, if you bought a bleacher seat at a minor league ball game, they'd give you a carbine. (Ok, exaggeration. But filling up with premium would do it... I'm sounding like Joe Biden ~!)

Pooh the only primers that I came across were a few packs of a 100 of 209 shot shell. I was looking for primers but no rifle or pistol unless I walked right by them I saw none.

Primers are in many of the stores out here but the price is ranging from $65 to $130 / 1,000
I think I need to look up the old boy who I gave heck to when he asked over $30/1,000 . . . doesn't seem like all that long ago.

Just thought I'd amused you with an account of my purchase of a brand new Ruger 10-22 from Reams Grocery store in Provo Utah, for $52......that was in 1969....no background checks, not displayed behind a counter.....just picked up a box, put it in the grocery cart, and went to the checkout.....might as well have been a box of Cheerios......my favorite .22. My son owns it now.....

My story was 1958 in Frazier Park, California (I was 10 years old). While my family and the neighbors family were building a cabin I would walk about 2 miles to town carrying my dad's Remington Model 12, Pump 22 (still have it). I'd buy a box of .22 Longs, a Peppornie Hot Stick and a bottle of Strawberry Crush AND I'd get change for a dollar! That would keep me busy all afternoon and I had to be back at the cabin befor dark.

Yes good memories...we lived in a free country, people trusted each other. My first "real" gun was a coming of age thing at 12 years old. Christmas .22 tube-fed bolt action repeater.....forget how many rounds in the tube.....a lot. Yep also a Remington. Yep still have it. Went rabbit hunting Christmas day with a friend. Walked two miles through town to the north hills.....and missed several rabbits.....but I gave them exercise running uphill. No my kids did not get that freedom. Society was not so trusting and safe by then. Got to drive legally a Honda 50 at 13 here in New Mexico. Now? Yeah right. Traffic would kill a 13 year old on a motorcycle, and you don't get a license to drive a motorized vehicle, until much older than 13.

A trip down memory lane is longer than I would ever suspected, fortunately. I was given my Model 6 Winchester 22 for Christmas also, though I was 7. The driving force was my best friends and back fence neighbors both had Model 67s and had a 10,000 acre ranch in northern California where we would spend time on horse back, fishing and shooting. It was a short time after when my family found itself in the farming business in the Central Valley allowing for more hunting and shooting adventures as well as driving the farm tractors and jeeps. Then I turned 9, times sure were better then.
