Here's a weird one.....this issue carries over from what I posted on The HUB (may she R.I.P.), so some of it may be a repeat.
I bartered a Pro 2000 Auto Indexing Press from my best friend for doing some spreadsheet/database work for him; he had bought a Dillon and wasn't using the RCBS. I did a lot of tinkering with it per the user manuals and with the help of several of y'all here, have it running in EXCELLENT shape; gotta give a shout-out and kudos to ATK/RCBS for shipping a number of parts to me for $0.00.
My primary goal in getting this press going was to get the strip priming up and running.....my buddy had installed the Tube Priming Conversion Kit. The tube priming function just wasn't working for a number of reasons, so I made the decision to "get back to basics".....make this thing work like it was designed fresh out of the box. In doing so, I discovered the strip feeder wasn't feeding strips, so ATK shipped HPT Detents, both the large and small Primer Plug Assembly, and a myriad of other screws and parts to me. I removed the Tube Priming Assembly, installed the detents, got the Large Primer Plug Assembly installed (after cleaning up the threads in the Auto Indexing Shell Holder Plate) and began happily reloading my first .45 ACP rounds.
Here comes the issue.....after about 500 or 600 rounds in, I was reloading some more .45 rounds yesterday and came to a stopping point when I finished loading a strip of 25 primers. When I started up again and loaded a new priming strip, something sounded strange/abnormal when I clicked the primer strip into the pusher and cycled the handle.....for some reason, the strip would not advance. I took everything apart, removed the Primer Plug Assembly, and took the Priming Plate off to expose the Strip Pusher and HPT Detents...everything looked OK, so I cleaned everything, got everything reassembled and with the Auto Index Shell Plate Holder in my hand, fed strips through the Strip Pusher with no problem by activating the pusher rods with the front bracket...smooth as a baby's butt.
HOWEVER.....when I re-installed the Primer Plug Assembly into the bottom of the Shell Plate Holder, the Primer Plug was sticking up juuuuuust enough into the Strip Pusher, preventing the strips from advancing. I removed the Primer Plug and made sure it was assembled correctly and tightly...no issue there except that the plug itself is sticking up into the Strip Pusher. I reassembled the Shell Plate Holder onto the Ram and tried to feed a primer strip through by activating the handle. Still no luck, as the Primer Plug Assembly is sticking up into the Strip Feeder channel.
Luckily I had previously found the Primer Plugs that had come with the press, reassembled everything with the "original" Primer Plug Assembly and proceeded on my merry way to reload about 200 more rounds without a snag.
Any ideas as to what happened with the Primer Plug Assembly to do that??
Scratching my head with very little hair left.....thanks!!!
