Ok, so sometime after the final demise of the HUB, I sent a note to RCBS customer service. Just now, I got this reply from RCBS. It addresses the questions some of us had about being made homeless. I wish it had been forthcoming from the beginning, as we might have been able to help RCBS to find us a new home. In my reply, I tried to leave the door open for something or other. Being a Lizard of Little Brain, I am puzzled by their inability to find a replacement host, but I will take Ms. Paul at her word. The exchange, in its entirety, follows: (Read from bottom to top !)
Hi- thanks for your response. The Hub was very much appreciated by those who used it. I'd like to pass your note along to the "refugees" who have taken up residence at 2Amunitions.net (we'd welcome you, or anyone at RCBS to check in on us-and possibly consider some sort of sponsorship !) The Hub was very special. There was a very high level of civility, and high quality content. Although we were disappointed at its closure, RCBS's sponsorship was deeply appreciated, and your response today provided a very reasonable explanation for what happened. Again, many thanks.

Well ... That is what happened.
Many thanks for posting this Pooh.
I can say this much for certain ... I believe the clock can never be turned back ... that is unless the Proboards, for some reason goes out of business.

Ken, while I agree that some sort of return to the status quo ante is unlikely, keeping options open through avoiding the terms "alwsys" and "never" (except in 2d Am issues) leaves options open. In any event, I was encouraged to hear from RCBS-I suspect their host was not particularly communicative with them.

Jim (Pooh), Thank you very much for sharing this. The responding with their reason which we'll take for face value. But if anyone that has done the web surfing and looked at the varies forums and looked at the company sponsored ones What for host do they have? Do they have a host company that runs the server like for the now gone ReloaderHub or do they do their own hosting? This makes the rusty and old gears in my head to turn as to the merit of the response. Our new home is hosted by Pro Boards and they host others with the help of advertising $$$. As you stated about the host not communicating with them for reasons you stated but I would believe that there is others out there that would like to host such forums.

I believe what ATK said about the host and the ability to find suitable hosting. What I have learned from trying to emulate the styling of the hub on another host might surprise you. The host for my .com flat out told me that they don't have the type of software needed to support that type of forum. The did some checking for me and relayed to me that what they hub used was very unique and high end. There are supposedly only a couple of servers in the world capable of hosting a site like that. At least none that would be affordable. I always thought that a hosting service was the same as the next but it turns out that some can do things that other can't depending on how they are configured. I really liked the layout of the hub and I know there were features that weren't used probably due to cost. There are plugins for this forum that we might like but they don't come cheap. I do have a wish list that I would like to have for this forum but then it would become a commercial site and need to generate some income. I know that many of yo have been eager to pitch in but then it really becomes a burden to beg, and borrow from the membership. I hold no hard feelings toward RCBS(ATK) for closing the hub. At least they gave us notice so e could do something to stay together as a group. Thanks for keeping us informed Jim.

Dan, Thanks for that comment and doing the checking of the server issue. The software and how high end it was did cross my mind. So with a couple having such a high end deal I can see the dilemma. I hold no hard feelings now that we know why. They did give us ample notice of the shut down and it would have been in good faith to give that reason in that notice.

Actually ... this place is pretty good. It does not have all the bells and whistles, but it appears to work OK.

I for one am thrilled I don't have to see white print on a green background!!! One of the only flaws in the Hub and this one too is that a new thread gets instantly buried as soon as a new one or even a new post on an old one gets posted. Simpler forums don't have all the "sections", but they display the lastest threads and posts 50 at a time on page one. That makes it easy to find what's new. This forum under "Forum Information and Statistics" (Home page) has the same information if you know where to look......it just isn't "in your face/here it is" like the others. Dummy that I am, I only noticed it was there last week.....then I couldn't find it again for a couple more days. Won't forget now. An example of a buried post was the one I added to "No more primers on the Floor" thread......I decided to add the how-to pictures in a new post. But it got buried 5 minutes after I posted. Well yeah.....the post that did the burying was more important. But it illustrates the point. We probably ought to trumpet the "Recent threads and Recent Posts" lines in "Threads & Posts" under "Forum Information and Statistics" more so that everybody Knows how easy it is to to an instant check on all the new stuff!! Now somebody's going to tell me I'm the only one who didn't know about it!

I can change the setting to display more threads and posts per page if that is what everyone wants. I just had it set to keep things more compact. I can certainly change it back if that's what is what you guys want. As far as why they didn't give us the reason up front, it may have just simply not crossed their minds to give us the reason. I sometimes forget that myself when I make major decisions where I work. It isn't that I don't want to tell them why or that is doesn't matter why something has changed , I simply just didn't think about it until someone asks.

Doesn't bother me the way it is at all now that I know THIS! page is available! Maybe it could be made more noticable...or just maybe I'm flat blind!
