You all probably know about (Google) AdWords..... you use the search bar and the regular results pup up and at the top or right side there will be “Ads” or “Sponsored” links. I assume these are the same in the USA as in Europe. For my company I also pay to exploit these “AdWords”, I can adjust the “search results” for certain parts of the world and at certain times during the day. Each time someone clicks on my sponsored link (I use specific search words related to my company and products) they will be directed to my company homepage. And I will pay a certain amount per click to Google. For my company this is a real goldmine, it will bring me each day new customers and therefore more income. It reaches more (new) customers than any other form of (regular) advertising..... okay so far all that is normal. Yesterday I received from Google their new “AdWords terms and conditions”, these new conditions have no effect on my company but........! If you have AdWords related to guns, ammunitions, explosives, fireworks, gun powder, bullets, shooting, hunting or affiliated goods and services your contract will be terminated at June-30-2014! If these terms and conditions are only for the Netherlands or Europe I don’t know. But this is absurd. Ebay and Paypal already banned everything that is gun related here, it looks like Google it self now follows by starting to ban “sponsored” search results. They already control what you will see when you use their search engine. This morning I contacted a befriended gun store owner who also uses Google AdWords, he was contacted by a Dutch Google legal representative about 2 weeks ago. And was told by this guy in no uncertain terms that his contract will stop. Needless to say he is tremendously pissed. I’m very curious to find out if this only a Dutch deal or also in other parts of Europe and the USA/Canada? They can ruin your gun (or related) business for excluding you from their displayed search results. Reading more carefully through new conditions it’s obvious that Google refuses to accept any legal issues regarding these changes due to “local legal restrictions and laws”......... What’s next to control us? PJ.

PJ, That date got me to thinking. That date June 30, 2014 falls in line with ATK who has the ReloaderHub and their sister site Storm Chasers. Being RCBS and Federal. One dose have to think that it might be related. I hope it is not.

This is the "exact" content of the new Google conditions:
Prohibited content & Dangerous products or services.
We want to keep people safe online and offline. Therefore, it is not permitted for certain products and services that may cause damage or injury. Advertising for: Examples of hazardous content: drugs (synthetic or vegetable), hallucinogenic substances, drug use equipment that may be made, weapons, ammunition, gun powder, bullets, explosive materials and fireworks, instructions for making explosives or other harmful product. As also hunting and shootingsport related goods and services.

Gasoline is a dangerous liquid. They should be treating advertisement for that the same as the before mentioned products. You know they will not do that or even beer, wine, and liquor.

From what little I know of Dutch ... it looks like each Country has a different policy on what is allowed and not allowed. This is really fucked up! I am truly sorry to hear about this.

What’s next to control us? PJ. PJ, Your statement "these new conditions have no effect on my company but" needs a second look, maybe they really do! Think about it this way. While they may not effect your company they may have a effect on you. If that friend has to close because of lack of business because google won't allow him to advertise. Where are you going to buy the things you want? Google doesn't feel any pressure because all those other companies didn't believe those policy changes effected them so they continued to pump money down the throats of the gun control ass wipes. If I had control of the company advertising budget that didn't appear on the surface to be effected, I think I would look for another way to spend that ad money anyway and I wouldn't be afraid to tell google why they lost my business. I hate it when companies cave in to the pressures of government. It's time we the people these companies depend on for their income forced them to provide us with what we what not what the government wants us to have. Government at least here is supposed to serve us not the other way around.

Dan,
For doing business with Google personally it does not effect me but you are correct when you look at it on a personal level. That’s why I mentioned it here on the forum. It’s the government that dictates what Google is allowed to do, you can see that all over the world, China is a good example how far Google is prepared and willing to go.
Banning shooting sport related internet ads is just a small step in my country. And it looks like Google was all to eager to accept this. Yesterday I was at my gun club where 2 gun store owners also were there to shoot. It was the premier topic at the range and bar. We already did some random checking what kind of gun related AdWords still do pop up. Well, bad news ==> none! We had to switch to the German version of Google and there the major and well known German stores/companies do still show their AdWords. It looks like it’s a typical Dutch version of censorship.
For regular (non ads) search results everything is still there, but most fear that it’s just a small (next) step to block that as well. This is probably what lays ahead in the future. By the way most newspapers and magazines already don’t accept advertisements from gun stores or gun related items. Like I mentioned in the past on the RCBS hub, locally (in my hometown) there are no gun and hunting magazines for sale anymore at kiosks and bookstores. I have to buy them somewhere else or use online versions.
PJ.

If at all possible I refuse to do business with any company that embraces anti-gun policies. Meaning if I can't get it from a gun friendly company and I need what they have, I may force myself to do business with them. That doesn't mean that I stopped using Google Chrome but I will never click on an ad-word or anything that makes them money. At least not once I find out about it. As an example, I love Ben & Jerry's Ice cream but because of their anti-gun policy I stopped buying it. Any restaurant that asks their customers not to carry guns into their place of business will never see my money. Yes they have the right to ban guns from their business and I respect that but I also have to right to go somewhere else.

It's the exact same thing as it looks now, it's apparently not longer a Dutch/European thing. I have read it and the American "version" is way more elaborate than we (Dutch) have. Go figure, how much political influence is there behind the scenes? ? Google must lose a lot of income by this. It's not only gun related stuff also about tobacco and so on. Google loves money like no other why bann one of the greatest money makers for them in the US...... The guns & ammo industry! This baffles me. PJ

PJ,
But they still love to make money off the Sex industry that puts our young women at greater risk from others as well as from them selves trying to have the "perfect Hollywood" shape.
I believe that you are correct in that it is all about politics.

This whole thing is /has gotten way out of control!! If they want to save lives they should ban the promotion ,sale and use of alcohol. 2012 or 2013 there were 88,000 deaths directly attributed to alcohol while 31,700+/- deaths were related to firearms and of those 25% were gang related, gang wars.
