Ok so I just ordered a Ruger mini 14 in 223. I have never owned a semi auto rifle before but do have some good 223 data from the past to work off. I know this will be a FL size only rifle which doesn't bother me at all. So my dumb question of the month is. Dose this rifle cycle with inertia or is it a gas port pressure cycle like the AR platform ?

I do believe that it is gas operated. Much like the M1 Garand the M1 Carbine the M14 which is what it derives from. Question is the one ordered just a .223 or both .223/5.56? I know the earlier ones were .223. Hey I just had to go check on this and here from Ruger:
