Ok so I bought a Ruger mini 14 and since I am a semiautomatic newb I have an optics question. Yes I carried an M16A1 & A2 while in the army in the 80's but their were zero optics on it army was cheap back then smiley-laughing021 .... My question is do I have to worry about the rifle's cycling affecting my zero??? Would the Weaver Grand Slam (2x8x36) I got for Christmas work out ok on this rifle??

I think that scope should be fine on that rifle. I guess it boils down to what for type and range you plan on shooting. On my 7-08 I have a Weaver 2x10x38 and that suits me fine from in the heavy woods to the wide open spaces. Now if I'm going to limit my range from close to about 150 yards then a Weaver 1x3x20 or similar type scope. Your Grand Slam should handle the recoil as most scopes like this on put on heavy and magnum caliber rifles.

Big fan of the 7mm-08 Rem.
