Good morning all!!
Here is the next newbie question I will pose to the Mensa Group...
The current (and typical) setup on my Pro2000 Progressive Press for pistol reloading is as follows:
Station 1: Resize
Station 2: Prime/Expand
Station 3: Powder Drop
Station 4: Lock-Out Die
Station 5: Seat/Crimp
So I had just finished loading about 1,000 rounds of .45 ACP and said to myself, "Self? It sure is a PITA to have to place a bullet on top of each and every case as it progresses to stage 5 to seat and crimp. What can I do?"
I really want to continue using the Lock-Out Die for all my pistol loading and the Powder Checker Die for .223. But I'd REALLY like the flexibility to use the Bullet Feeder Dies that I bought for reloading pistol. Unfortunately, with only a 5-stage press and wanting to keep safety in the loop with the Lock-Out Die, using the bullet feeder die is not possible. So if ONLY there was a way to combine some steps so that I could move SOMETHING around to free up a station to add my bullet feeder die.
Enter the answer to my prayers!!! The RCBS Case Activated Linkage Pistol Kit Powder Expander...
This thing will allow me to combine the function of priming, expanding, and powder charging all in station 2, allowing me to move the Lock-Out Die to station 3 (where the powder hopper normally is) and then add my Bullet Feeder Die in station 4. My buddy reloads on a Hornady Lock-N-Load press and apparently these are standard equipment on the Hornady??
Most of y'all know my experience level here.....pretty good for pistol loading and I've become fairly proficient at using the Pro2000. For those that have used this powder expander in a Pro2000 Auto-Indexing Progressive Press, can you offer any tips, tricks, and what-not-to-do in using these Powder Expanders for pistol reloading??
As always...thanks a $mil!!!
p.s. As to the Bullet Feeder Die, here is what the description on MidwayUSA's web site says..."The feeder will work with any type of bullet including: jacketed, plated, solid copper and cast or swaged lead bullets." And RCBS' product description from their web site says, "Another added benefit is that it can be used with jacketed, plated, cast or swaged lead bullets."
I have read reviews, however, that state these Bullet Feeder Dies WILL NOT work with lead bullets. Any thoughts on that??
