Ok so those of you from our old home know I am a huge 7 bore fan and of those the 7-08 Rem is my choice for deer. That load I think has met a new contender. I have been working off and on with a 280 and 150gr Sie GK's as well as 150gr Nos ABLR's both bullets seem to really like a nice charge of RL22 or IMR7828 and accuracy is as good or better than I expected to this point. It looks so good I might be reaching for it over either my 308 or my 7-08 this hunting season which says a lot coming from me.

Chuck, My go to for deer is also the 7mm-08 but I have and still do hunt with other calibers. The last buck I shot here in PA. was with the 444 Marlin I had at that time since sold. The one year I got a slug barrel for the Mossberg 500. I hunted deer with that and have taken a doe that same year. This year taking the single shot 30/30. Hope to have some loads done in time with Nosler 170gr Partitions and Speer 165gr RN. Going to try W748-LeveRevolution-Varget powder. also try to work some loads with Nosler 150 BT's.

Chuck: You're not really changing much, same bore diameter just stepping up to my most used rifle a 7X57 Ruger. If your rifle shoots well you won't look back, but then didn't you have a .280 before? I use 140 gr. Sierra Pro Hunters with an old Hodgdon recipe for Ruger Only (I check with Hodgdon with each change in powder lot #) don't need the boat tail under 300 yds. I also like my .257 R'bts. Deer season starts next weekend for me.

Don't get me wrong I love the 7-08 for deer but after seeing 2 Nos Bullets both ballistic tips not do their job in the last 3 years I am going to try something new. I have always like the potential of the 280 now I am actually taking the time to work on that potential. It just cuts against the grain for me as I love short action rifles and the 7-08 is my long time favorite having owned one since the late 80's and seldom if ever not having one.

Chuck: You might try the .284 Sierra 140gr. PH I have used that bullet since '72 and never had a deer take another step I'm launching them at a chronoghaphed average 2,950 f.p.s. H414 powder with CCI 200 primers (I know the book calls for 250s,got Hodgdons blessing).

I have used the Sie PH bullet Bob with no problems. Don't get me wrong I don't totally blame the bullets in this case but one pancaked on the liver of a deer quatering away the other on a rib and pancaked I fired both of them at 7-08 velocity. I know things happen I am just trying to avoid them if I can. I had an issue last year with a 30 caliber Sie GK but that bullet hit a branch I did not see in flight.

Chuck: I understand your situation. Regardless of the cause we loose confidence in something then it is time to try something else.
