A while back a friend of mine approached me to load some 30/30 shells but found out the 160 FTX bullet he supplied was incorrect. It was designated for the 308 Marlin and not the 30/30. Anyway he finally bought the correct bullet and we are off to the races again. The correct bullet part # for the 30/30 160 FTX is #30395. Point of interest as I now have the correct 160gr FTX bullet for the 30/30. Ed

Ed, If I remember right this was discussed at the old house. I'm not sure if it was you that started that thread or not. I posted the numbers for said bullets so as to acquire the proper ones. As per the photo the bullet for the 30/30 is the left and the one for the 308 Marlin Express is on the right. I think Hornady could have eased the confusion by having two cannelures. They have done this for other bullets depending for what case being loaded like in the 44 Mag and 444 Marlin.

You are correct on all counts but what is also seen in the picture is different olgive location and length of nose. I do agree that a properly designed bullet with 2-cannelures would have been a better way to go to avoid confusion.
Yes this was touched on the old board but thought it might be helpful to someone when the difference can be displayed with a picture.
