In my location early Canada Goose Season will open Sept.4th this year and I’m ready to go. Purchased my Migratory Bird License this week and checked my supplies needed with all good to go. The only thing left is too make sure my clothing still properly fits. For umpteen years this has been a tradition of getting up early, getting equipment ready to portage to a small island by canoe and settle in for a morning hunt. Once setup and nestled in for upcoming birds it’s a quiet time for past reflections or just personal thoughts. For me it’s also gives me a feeling that all is right with this small part of the world. As sunrise approaches it is soon time to uncase the shotgun and load up. The first greeting of a new dawn is usually heard from different birds on nearby land welcoming the day. As the dawn progresses you anxiously wait for that familiar sound of geese honking in the distance that lets you know they are in flight looking for food or a place to rest. The call comes to your mouth and sends out a greeting and invite to the geese in hopes they’ll come for a visit. At this point the primary senses of sight and sound takes over guiding your next reaction. Yep it’s good to be alive and healthy enough to enjoy another season. Ed

Yes Ed. I to welcome the start of hunting for me. Looks like I will not get to do any waterfowl hunting this year but I might get out for dove which starts September and then mid October one of my favorite times of year with the colors of the leaves is the start of grouse and squirrel. These two are my favorite to hunt. Yes I like all hunting but these two and this time of year is time I really enjoy afield. Even if I don't come home with anything just to sit there and enjoy looking at the art work of of the colors which tells me only God can make such beauty.

Ed & All Here in California we are some what lucky as deer season opened last weekend and will run through late fall. We have a number of hunting zones and most have different openig days, the down side is most aones are available by lottery only. I had a very pleasant opener last weekend, I had the opportunity to shoot (I don't like the term harvest, thats for wheat) 3 different bucks 2 forked horns and a 3 pointer all of which I directed some younger hunters to. The younger hunters (30-35 years old) are realiatively new to the sport, were all successfull which was great! Helping them retrieve the game and seeing their enthusiasm while properly dressing the deer made for a great day. I'll get mine latter.

I agree God’s creation is a wonder to behold as you can see His signature everywhere. Enjoy your times outdoor and hopeful a bonus of some game to enrich the memory of this time.

You’re welcome to use whatever word you feel comfortable with. To me there is no right or wrong with certain terminologies describing this specific action. I use the term harvest as that is what I’m doing for meat consumption when I kill. For varmints I use the term shoot or kill as a rule. Wish you good hunting when your turn to bat comes, to shoot.
