Over the past weekend a man and his son were trying to repair a fence along side their home. They had to remove the old concrete the posts were set in, to loosen the concrete the father took some "gun powder" and mixed it with magnesium powder well it didn't ignite so he added more gunpowder to the mix. His plan was to use a torch to light a hand flare and use the flare to set off the blast. The son was holding the flare which the father lit with the torch,I suspect they were too close as the flare driped on to the mixture and set off a blast that shook windows in the neighborhood and unfortunately burned the son rather badly, second and third degree burns on the face neck and chest. It actually gets worse, the father administers 1st aid and drive his son to the hospital,a 15-20 minute trip at best, instead of calling 911 and getting a fire department paramedic engine and ALS ambulance which are stationed close by. Darwin got the wrong one for this award. Father will probably go to jail .

Yes Bob stupid breaths and lives among us and scarier yet they vote just as stupid. I hope the boy makes out and recovers from this and hope like hell he don't as he gets older he is not like his father. I hope the father does get time for being stupid. The stupid gene pool seems to be getting larger and our future will be hurt from it.

I’m saddened when someone gets needlessly hurt and amazed when I read something like this. But I’m also not surprised when something like this happens. A little bit of knowledge can be more dangerous than not having any knowledge of working mechanics. The real question is where did this idea of using explosive to bust up concrete come from?
Having some experience using explosives in industry for metal forming and seeing other applications like 2-dissimilar metals being bonded that normally can’t be welded together I wouldn’t even consider trying something like this. Then there is the resulting consequence of flying debris like concrete than can not only damage but kill unless a proper cover mat is employed. What about the resulting shockwave that can also cause extensive damage? Of course we haven’t even touched the possibility of a gas-line nearby.
Explosive applications are good when properly used by someone properly trained but obviously this individual failed on all counts, even administering the best possible first aid. Yep they live among us with usually no early warning of when they set the wheels in motion for a catastrophe. Not wishing anyone any harm all you can do is hope the catastrophe is isolated and contained to the instigator.

Bob that isn't a father that's a fucking moron (sorry for the language). I feel bad for the boy being raised by someone this neglectful and ignorant. He should be in jail and will be looking at both state and federal time I would think. What he did was make a bomb. If he did this in your neck of the woods hold on tight because your state government will now be out to get you because you have gunpowder.

Chuck: Thought of that, liable to be a federal run at gun powder. Unfortunately it did happen in my town, the father is a non-native invasive species.

Well Bob now you have yet another fight on your hands out in Cali sorry that this is happening. That same invasive species is showing up here and the locals are all taking to them lol. Can't wait to see the looks on their faces when the other shoe drops and these folks show their true colors at least from my experience it won't be good.

Bob ~ I shared this story with a fellow at church this morning. He told me one; seems a local man watched the Discovery Channel episode showing how contractors were imploding high-rise buildings. A few days later this guy was ahead of my friend in line at Home Depot. The guy was asking to but shape charges to take down a block wall on his property. They all tried to set the guy straight but his comment was; "it didn't look all that hard on the TV show." ~ Larry
