I've never seen a deer that small without spots. Mule Deer in my neck of the woods. Then again, I haven't seen that many juveniles either so I'm really not sure when they lose their spots. Not a deer hunter......can't tell can you? For food if I can't find a Cow or buffalo to harvest and my family's hungry, then I wouldn't hesitate.

Here they are usually dropped mid May thru mid June and are spot free come October most of the time. I have never seen deer and a dog quite that friendly but have seen farm deer get so use to the old farm dog that they would run and play but very rarely. The thing that got me was it actually looks like the deer is wagging its tail a couple time not flag waving but just a slight wagging.

Anyone know where this was taken? It looks to me like a blacktail fawn or yearling. Here on the pacific coast fawns are usually spot free by now and the fawns around my present job site are about the right size. That second deer could be a twin or mother.
