I purchase some pistol cast bullets .358 recently from a local vendor. I have reloaded app. 2-3 hundred with no problems and firing with no problems. I have noticed during the bullet seating some of the bullets will leave a lead shaving/sliver on one side of the case mouth. It is easily removed with my fingernail. I just purchase a Speer #14 manual which states that the expander for lead bullets should .001 under size & for jacketed bullets should be .002 - .003 undersize. My expander measures .355. I have loaded jacketed & cast bullets with the same dies and all seems to work. The manual recommended having different size expander for different bullets. Is it customary to keep both sizes of expanders?

Hal, I load for 38/357 using both jacketed and cast also and use the same dies for both. some times I have gotten those little slivers but for the most part I don't. For me I have no need to be swapping out expanders to load different bullets. One way to hekp with the lead slivers is to bell the case mouth just a wee bit more.

hal,
The guidance I read and what I've been using is that the case mouth should be belled .03" over bullet diameter. Hope that helps...
