Chuck, We are living in the RV most of the time now. The house has to sell before we hit the road, so I'm still working. Erjdriver This plane was built and is owned by a retired PAN-AM Captain. He was a 727 driver and at 81 years old he still flies almost everyday!

WOW awesome paint job!!! I have seen jobs like this on cars and trucks. Putting a scheme like that on aircraft is just neat.

Awww ... no close up of the mermaid???
Anyhow ... that is a FANTASTIC paint job! The plane looks like it could be on display in a museum.

Those are neat little aircraft we have a couple at our local airport, however none have a paint job like that. Can you PM me at rlewisenvmgt@comcast.net with his name? A fellow that works for me is an ex Pan Am driver they probably know one another.

Wow! I can appreciate that work of Art!!.....including the gorgeously sleek design of the kit!! Wouldn't do me any good to covet it though.....I made the decision not to get a pilot's license when I was 24. Even more damned impressed with the pilot. I couldn't afford a Cessna 150, once I found out how much annuals cost.....not to mention the complete overhauls required, what? every 5 years? One of my boy scouts (actually my sister's step son) who I helped with the Aviation Merit Badge later became a Marine and a Harrier pilot. After the service he became an airline pilot. He was on vacation on 9-11-2001.....and his best buddy was one of the pilots who died that day in one of the planes he regularly flew.....he had a real hard time. Bet he'd LOVE a sportster like that!

when you see anything like this you have to wonder how the artist can be so talented. this is absolutely beautiful.

skipper, what floors me is that not only did the guy execute, but he had the concept floating around his head, and then was able to translate it.

From my understanding one of the reasons it took 4 months to paint was because the idea and concept came from the owner. The hard part was getting the artist see it the way the owner wanted it. It very difficult to transfer a vision from one person to another.

Dan : Please ask the pilot/owner of the Van if he knew or remembers a Pan Am pilot Neil Nordquist flew 74s infact he was in South America comming home when they were told of the End. Neil was a 1st Officer he didn't want to leave SFO. I know alot of the pilots stay loosely in touch. Thanks, Bob

I will ask when I see him again. BTW This airplane is named "Maid of the Seas" after and in remembrance "Clipper Maid of the Seas" N739PA Boeing 747-121 Lost Lockerbie 1988

A little , but since Pan Am was brought up..... If you haven't read "Fate is the Hunter" by Ernest Gann, do yourself a favor and get it. FANTASTIC book about the early days of commercial aviation pre-WWII in its infancy as the beginnings of the U.S. Mail routes and early, early passenger carriage. There was a movie made about the book, but I've heard it wasn't that great and doesn't capture what the imagination can conjure up while reading the print. Great weekend everyone!!
