Afternoon all... My best friend is looking to get the owner of the custom auto shop with whom he works a nice Christmas gift from everyone in the shop. He's looking at either a Sig Sauer 1911 Scorpion or a Springfield Range Officer 1911 at a local pawn shop with a $900 and $750 price tag, respectively. I don't know SQUAT about Sig or Springfield products, so I'd appreciate ANY feedback, opinions, things to consider, and possible pitfalls of either. The only negative thing I've seen on YouTube regarding the Scorpion was that the slide sometimes will not stay locked back after shooting the last round in the mag. It seems to be very finicky in that regard with the magazine, ammo, etc. Has this improved? As for Springfield, I'm personally not in love with their XD/XDM line of conceal carry pistols, but I've heard they're larger frame pistols are tops. Thanks for ANY and all guidance!! Sig Sauer 1911 Scorpion Springfield Range Officer 1911

I am biased as I have 6 xd,xds, xdm pistols in my stable. Have been impressed with the fit and finish of every one. They fit my larger hand perfectly. I have seen the range officers and have wanted one for a bit. I have not shot either of the 1911's though, so I'm useless in this discussion. I just wanted to vote though :-)

I bought Colt! But the Sprinngfield was highly recomended and I know nothing of the Sig. Personally I like the more traditional appearnace of the Springfield.

I have several 1911's SIG, Springfield, Colt, Wilson Combat and Kimber. If I had to choose between my SIG and the Springfield I would take the SIG. I think SIG makes a better 1911 than Springfield. On the other hand Kimber and Wilson Combat make superior 1911's over all others. IMHO Bottom line is name a brand and I will show you someone that has had issues with it. With every brand except the last 2 mentioned I tear them down and hone and polish everything so that it all works as smooth as it can. Never have had to do that with Kimbers or WC's

Well Sig dose make a good and reliable firearm. Have friends that swear by them former and current LEO's. The Sig's are more pricey though. I would go for the Springfield. For one price compared to the Sig. Another thing Springfield before changing hands made firearms for our armed forces for about 200 years. They made the 1911's for both World Wars and up to Vietnam. That alone is one hell of a track record. I would be more than happy if I was presented with the Springfield.

I only have one .45 ....... at least today. My first one was a Colt Gold Cup Series 70 bought new for a whole $900. (those were the days) It got replaced by a Kimber Stainless Target II 10 years ago. Out shot the Gold Cup! So I have no experience with your two. But, I say it depends on what its to be used for. I noticed that the Sig has combat sights and the Spingfield has adjustable sights. Two different animals. I like the looks of the Sig....does that count? My next .45 will be a combat version. So Sig's the closest, I vote for it. (Either are good pistols so one has to decide by taste and use.) However if I were buying it wouldn't be a 5". It would be ........ Kimber Super Pro but with Wilson tactical magazines. They work every time.
