Ok so since I didn't sleep last night again UGH I took to the net looking for a new 338 Federal that wasn't built on an AR platform or a light weight Kimber. I have found it from both Sako (A7) and Tika (T3) so now I am pumped. Going over to see my boy Jason today and see if he can run one down for me. I sure as hell hope so this will settle my brush/heavy cover choice easily.

Bob Tika T3 lite in stainless was ordered today. All the distributors he called said they would have to order it as well because of the caliber I want so it will be about 5-7 weeks before Jason will get it.

Good score ! Hope it works out well. I passed up one of the TC bolt guns back when they were still made in Rochester, and have kicked myself since. Very interesting cartridge.

Yeah I have found the Sako 85 a few places for sale and hell if I am gonna drop close to 2K I can get and ER Shaw for around a grand. For that matter I could just rebarrel either a Remmy or a Savage through Douglass Barrels for a lot less.

Chuck, It just occured to me, you maybe ought to consider one of the short .30s as the .338 bullets are almost double the price of comparable .30s. I don't think you'd notice much difference between the two in the brush. Now if you just "need" a .338 of one sort or another that's a different program.

Bob you read my mind lol 300 RMC is looking pretty good right now in an M77 Guide Gun. This rifle is compact short barreled and quick handling and not all that common which I really like. I have time for that though. I have been looking off and on for another 338 Federal for a while now its just something I want.

Chuck, You can get that same gun in 338 RCM. If you want something in the .338 caliber and is short and quick handling.

I want a 338 Federal to replace the one I lost in a fire a few years back. I had a pretty nice one and had just really started working with it so I am looking to replace it. I just waited to long to start looking.

Mulling over some options on this one I can go with an ER Shaw at $1,100 the way I want it, I can go with a Douglass Rebarrel for about $650, I can go with a Hart rebarrel, trued action, fitted into my stock of choice for about $1,000 or I can make a call and get what I really want for about $2,200 hmmmmmm.........

Chuck, I went through the same delema over the .257. However my choices were fewer there were no .257s out there at the time and I had a "spare" mod 70 '06 so I had Montana Rifle build a barrel and had Dennis Olsen true the action and mount it. Turned out to be just what I wanted. In your case I think I'd follow your gut other wise you may not be satisfied even though you may be happy for a while.

Bob that's the problem I am not 100% sure what I want other than the caliber LOL. I am in no real hurry on it so I can take my time and weight things out no big deal.

Ok, I've sort of been looking at the Savage offerings in .338 Federal. (A friend is really hot to trot on the cartridge. I pointed him to the Savage website, and when I next talked to him, He pointed out that it seems the rifles in .338 Federal have a magazine capacity of two, as opposed to other similar sized cartridges. In the Hog Hunter, for example, in .308, the capacity is four. Any insight as to why ? Of course, I asked my friend what that was an issue-was he expecting to miss a lot ? No wonder I have so few friends...

Pooh I actually pointed that out to Savage in an email the other day they said they will get that fixed seems to me like a website typo.

STILL WAITING FOR THITHING TO COME IN AND I AM GETTING JUST A LITTLE ANNOYED. Jason says his suppliers haven't gotten any in but I have found several on GA so it might be time to take a trip to St Marys Pa to pick it up. Plus Ammo and Arms has a couple of other things I want to check out. Hate to say it but my boy Jason might have lost a customer.

I get that same story from my local guys also. I just tell them of my intention to get what I want else where and they're ok with that as they just can't supply what I want. I don't know your situation with Jason but I wouldn't give up on him over this unless there are other issues.
Be glad you moved away from the .325 WSM it is hard to find brass other than Nosler at $64/25. I lucked out and got 20 boxes with the rifle, also the .300 WSM is easy to form to .325.

Bob their have been a few things the last couple months he claims to not be able to get. Things I have found at a couple other places that are just as close as he is. His prices are better than theirs but he seems to not be able to get some of the things I want.
I haven't given totally up on the 325 WSM Bob just a momentary detour to replace a rifle I lost. The BAR Short Trac or Win Mod 70 are still calling my name.

Then I'll try to not buy up the entire 8mm bullet supply! I don't know whether you have read some of my posts about the .325 but it is a pleasant rifle to shoot. I shot 25 or so 220 gr Winchester power point bullets one morning and could have shot another 25. I've not been able to shoot as much as I would like because work and Hunter Ed. are getting in the way. By the way if you end up with the fat cartridges you may have to cut the spout of your powder funnel as the neck of the .325 is too short and powder spills around where cartridge neck and funnel are supposed to meet.

I have read Bob and I have also shot a couple of them too both Browning's an X-Bolt and a BAR Short Trac so I know what to expect from it. As for buy up the entire supply of 8MM stuff go for it I already have enough to last me a little while. As for shortening my funnel I have a drop tube that fits then perfectly.
