I'm always looking for a "Better" bullet for my handguns. In this case "Better" really means cheaper. Because of the amount of lead I send down range every year I was compelled to start casting my own a few years ago. I have learned allot about casting and while it has cut my bullet expenses down by more than half, it is still a dreaded process for me. When it comes to reloading casting bullets is my least favorite thing to do. Setup time alone drives me crazy. I admit I could trim that down by organizing the area I use to cast bullets but the desire to get away from the molten lead is stronger than refining my process. I posted a thread on Harvey's Port-X- Bore bullets at the HUB but it didn't get much attention and died a lonely death. I am interested in you guys opinion of these swagged zinc washer base bullets. I have already purchased the dies and zinc washers for 9mm and already have several spools of soft lead. I also have a couple of spare barrels, one of which I will use to test the SHERARDIZED process they talk about on their website. I haven't received the dies as of yet but one of the things I like about this is that the bullet weight can be adjusted with ease. The other plus is that it doesn't require a massive press to swag these bullets. Anybody tried these?

I've never heard of them......or probably more accurate....I don't remember them. Most interesting reading, I like the idea if it truly does what they say! That Fulton is aboard adds to their credibility. I'll be waiting to hear your experiences with this. How much do you reckon you will spend to be completely set up? Of course you will have to buy pure lead in wire rolls (forget the usual wheel weights and such), but not having to buy all the casting equipment is a huge plus. (I never have as I only have used jacketed and plated.) Actually I've been waiting for retirement to start getting serious with the "boolit" scene.
At first observation, it would appear that the biggest plus of this idea is the time savings, the safety(no fumes), and the lack of the mess. You may be on to something here! My only caveat.....they don't offer it for .40 S&W.!
BTW, have you tried out the latest Powder coating rage yet? I'm hearing really good things about that process too! What's your take of that option? The good: no lubing required, no leading, and works great in bullet feeders. The bad: an additional messy step to casting, so you don't make it less tedious like SWAGING offers!

Greg, I already have 4 rolls of .300 dia pure lead. The die and 2000 pure zinc washers came to just over $230.00 plus 6.00 for shipping. I'm looking forward to giving this a try. I did find a local guy that swears buy these. He said he has been using them for over 20 year and said that once the barrel is broke in that I won't want to shoot anything else. He also said that swagging these didn't take any more effort than full resizing .308 brass. I'm glad to hear that. He also said to load them up just like a jacketed bullet of the same weight. I think i'll see what the included instruction say. He also said that he would make a hollow point nose plug for me if I wanted. What the heck I said sure! I think I'll dig out one of the rock chucker presses for this task.

Interesting! I decided to start a thread over on theFiringline.com on this swaging system to see what interesting muck would stir up. A few of those guys have a lot of experience and horse sense. So far none the the "wise men" have entered the thread, but one guy said this: "I used the zinc based swaged bullets in a TC 44 magnum, 10 inch barrel. Shot well and what ever leading (?) fell out with one swipe of a bush." the thread is here in case you want to peek in the next few days.
