Good morning and Happy November!! I'm waffling back and forth on what type bullet to use for reloading .40 S&W semi-auto rounds. This will just be target/plinking ammo, so I don't need to spend a lot of $$. With that said, my personal choices are a FMJ/CMJ or a plated bullet of some sort, copper I presume. I'm leaning toward an FMJ style, but just wanted some input from everyone else. Not sure if copper fouling is a big concern if I go plated, but maybe it is. I've already loaded 1,000 rounds with FMJ bullets from Everglades and just started my next 1,000 with Rainier LeadSafe Plated bullets; both bullets reload very easily. It's time to order up some more bullets so I was just curious what everyone thinks... Thanks and great weekend y'all. Don't forget to "fall back" tonight...extra hour of sleep!! jvb

It looks like you may have already tried a few. I would suggest you give Berry's Mfg a try. Berry's has 10mm 155 grain plated FP in stock. The quality is exceptional The prices are very good You get FREE shipping for ALL orders over $75! I tried Rainier ... I like Berry better. The boxes of Rainier I got ... the bullets had a lot of dings in them. Not so with the Berry's

When I load for my pistols or purchase ammo I always get jacketed hollow points I want positive expansion even in "practice" loads. I use lead in my .45 Colt,.44 Spec'l and .38 Spec'l loads. I use JHPs for all the magnums. This is an opinion which really doesn't have a huge amount of substance to it. Good Luck!

Well being of limited funds I have no problem using cast or swagged lead in my 9mm or my 40 S&W. Yes I use FMJ's and JHP's in these also. When I find a deal on a good quantity I get as much as I can. For plinking loads lead is fine with me.

Give me a place to stand and a long-enough lever, and I will invariably break the lever.

Like Hacker, I use a lot of cast bullets in my autos. (I don't own a Glock.) Of course, my revolvers rarely see a jacketed bullet.

Thanks y'all...I've decided to go with these: $121.99 per 1,000 is not a bad deal. Frontier CMJ BulletsAnd like you, pooh, my revolver sees nothing but lead. The gentleman who owns/operates our shooting club makes some dang fine .38 Special bullets that look AWESOME when loaded. And I have a good supply of semi wad cutter as well...

Like Hacker54 and poohzilla, I'm a cast bullet guy.
And I do shoot cast 40 short and fat through my Glock with a Lone Wolf replacement barrel.

I load plated for plinking because any money I save can then be spent on more gun stuff.

I voted with the FMJ guys, if only because you said "prefer". I prefer them for accuracy's sake, but they are becoming too expensive for paper. I use mostly plated bullets these days because 1: they are cheaper, and 2: they are the only way Gold Dots come, and I only use Gold Dots for carry. (that may change with what Dangun is discovering with his swaged bullets....Gold Dots are planted but they're certainly NOT inexpensive!) I am MOST interested in the mushrooming found in the recovered pure lead bullets he tested. Think I'm going to try those.

Greg, I moved my post and Pooh's post to a new thread "Handgun Bullet Swaging".
