Can some one help me identify these two Garands. I never have seen such a tag on a rifle what so ever. Unfortunately I do not have more or better pictures. Or even some more info. These rifles are up for sale at a gun store, I can purchase one of them but like to know more about them. The current owner (store) has absolutely no idea what the history is about these guns, at least he could/would not tell us that. It's to say, a friend of mine who also want one of them did not got an answer. One with tag mentions the date: 1944 the other one is from: 1956 PJ

Not ignoring you, PJ, I just don't know much about them. My Dad carried one in boot camp on training marches, when he was lucky (he loved them)....unlucky days he had to carry a Browning BAR. In the Philippines he was issued a M1 Carbine.... Wish I could help.....I'd love to own one.....in the shape those appear to be in, either one would be great, if the bore is good, and the parts match. Is the '56 one .30-06 or .308? I would prefer the 06 if the newer one was .308. A .308 in a M1 is sorta like a 327ci engine in a Shelby Cobra Sports Car. Is that weird tag on the old one or the newer one? NEVER seen anything like that. Some kind of commemorative?

Hello PJ; I suggest you head on over to Calguns. There are a lot of very knowledgeable collectors of C&R, (special FFL class for collecting here in the US). guns over there. A few of them own a small armory of collectible military firearms ... especially the following: 1. M1 Garand 2. Mauser 3. Mosin Nagant 4. SKS 5. Czech CZ pistols 6. Enfields 7. Martini rifles 8. Buffalo bore and all things 45-70 and other black powder cartridge 9. Various pistols, (Webley .455, Mosin Nagant, Mauser Broomhandle, Browning, Colts etc)... ... just to name a few.
