This is another of the new IMR powders I worked with. I used a lot more of it in my load trial than I thought I did. Both of the rifles I used were my own personal rifle so I was more familiar with them and think it showed up in the results. I sent more rounds down range and had more fun with this test. This powder like the other new powders from IMR dose indeed help reduce copper fouling. Of the 3 I personally think this one dose the best job of it. The recoil like I stated in my 4551 and mentioned in another post for 7977 is more of a sustained shove then a sudden jolt. I ran cycles in 7mm08 and 308 with this powder with 3 different bullet weights for the 7mm08 and 2 in the 308 with 2 different bullets manufactures. I also started a cycle with 150 Nosler E=Tips but found that by 44.2 grains bolt lift was getting sticky so I stopped. All combos tested were 5 shots during work up still a small sample size yes but it shows potential. My best results were as follows.
7mm08 42.9gr under a 130gr Speer BTSP 2917fps with a 5 shot group of 1.177 (with his bullet and H4895 the results end up almost identical my best 5 shot group was 1.169)
7mm08 43.0gr under a 145gr Speer BTSP 2826fps with a 5 shot group of 1.090 (with this bullet and H414 I get slightly less velocity but a better 5 shot group .873)
7mm08 39.0gr under a 160gr Speer BTSP 2571fps with a 5 shot group of 1.065 (with this bullet and H414 I get both better velocity and a better 5 shot group .885)
308 Win 47.2gr under a 150 Nosler Partition 2903fps with a 5 shot group of .804 (with this bullet and IMR4320 I get more velocity from my load but accuracy is a push .800)
308 Win 47.4gr under a 150 Sierra GK 2911fps with a 5 shot group of .945 (with this bullet and IMR4320 I get more velocity but accuracy is a push .946)
308 Win 44.3gr under a 165 Nosler Partition 2754fps with a 5 shot group of .990 (with this bullets and Varget I get better velocity and accuracy .775)
308 Win 44.6gr under a 165 Sierra GK 2769fps with a 5 shot group of .933 (with this bullet and Varget I get better velocity and accuracy .700)
All of these were fired from one of my Remington 700 SPS Varmint rifles. I did not touch the scope. This powder dose have some potential and I will continue to work with it. Using just my own rifles I think made a difference. I think with some minor tweaks their could be a really good load hiding in plain sight. This will be a powder I keep on my bench for a long time to come
