I love the older S&W pistols when it comes to shooting them. Metal in my hand feels better than plastic. The draw back is carrying them all day, they are heavy on the hip but that's where the plastic guns shine. I think the reliability might be slightly better with the plastic guns...maybe. I bought these 2 several years ago because the price was very low. I intended to clean them up and resell them. Naturally I had to shoot them as well. You can't sell something you haven't shot unless it's new. Right? Well long story short they have a permanent place in my collection. Oh Kat laid claim to the 659 which is awesome cause I like the 5906 better. I did have to replace the extractor on the 659. I actually bought three extractors because it took several months to find new ones an they don't make them anymore. Used ones are available but you never know the extent of wear on them. One other thing, notice there is no tactical rail. Like helmets for bicycles we didn't need them back then. Below is a photo of the 2 together the 659 is at the top and notice the wrap around grip on the 5906.

Dan, Nice set. I would love to get a Mod39. Did that site I gave you for extractors work out for you?

My first .45 pistol was a S&W 4509 (same design). I had no complaints what so ever. The gun served me well over the years. PJ

Gary, Thanks for letting me know about that site but they only had used extractors but no new. I ended up finding new ones on GunBroker.

Everybody has opinions and we are all entitled to them. Paul I appreciate the fact that you like colts. I happen to like them myself. I also can live with the fact that you don't like S&W's. I however can't understand that anyone could like only one brand of firearm but to each his own. This is where I should take the high road and just shut up but I have to say this. Thank God you are the exception and not the rule. Have a great evening Paul!
