Hello everybody I am now a vendor at the Miami Gun & Knife show and the Ft Lauderdale Gun & Knife show. I feel somewhat privileged since it took me almost a year to get into the Miami show. It has approximately 400 tables and is the largest in our area of South Fla. Since I arrive before the opening bell, I can walk around the show before the general public starts to arrive. I have been able to find a much wider powder availability than in the past 2 years. I guess this is a sign that the worst is over. Prices seem to run around $25-30 per pound. I saw Varget, Titewad, CFE and several others for sale. I hope that this is the case Nationwide. We went through quite a dry period for reloaders but things seem to be loosening up. Hopefully prices will follow along with availability. What has been your experience?

Interesting observations-I had occasion to make two trips, Sunday and today, to the big dealer in New Hamster. (Kicked myself for not picking something up on sale...had to go back.) Powder seems to come in gobs. Today there was a case of 748 that wasn't there Sunday. Standbys like Unique are not to be had, some of the rest in reasonable supply. Price has settled out to mid-20's and lower. Place is lousy with primers. Brass is in good supply if you load .223 .308, 9mm or .40 S&W. Otherwise, you're up the creek. They seem to have a steady supply of CCI .22. That's it from the Frozen North.

I hit the Lancaster, CA gun show this past weekend. One of the smaller shows in So. Cal. Seeing reloading supplies again but limited quantities. Primers are coming down but still higher than the good old days (CCI's were running $30 to $38 /1000) but at least they are available. As for powder, some rifle powers are available ($22 to $30 /pound) but no pistol powders. I'll getting low on Bullseye, sure hope it's available soon.

I been lucky on line with pistol powder. I downloaded gunbot.net to my phone sometime ago and was able to find Bullseye, Red Dot, 700X, IMR4227 and a couple of others . If you don't have the app, it's free and they keep it updated all the time. Check it out if you don't have it.

Thanks Lex. I'll check into the app. I have bought very little powder on-line due to shipping and haz-mat charges. I buy some from Bass Pro Shop because they ship to local store and I pick it up there. My local gun shops all say availability is improving on all components.

Just snagged a few fresh #8's Varget, IMR4064, IMR4350 and the stunner Retumbo (wwwwwwwhat). I am still looking for my holy grail Ramshot HUNTER but have noticed that powder is getting easier to find. I am trying to avoid #1's if I can unless it is strictly just to try an unfamiliar powder. I have even seen primers becoming more available Mid Way sent me an email notification that they had Fed 210M and 215M's in stock they didn't last very long though I did score on a 1000 215M's and 2000 standard 210's I didn't need them but figured I had better get them anyway.

I haven't seen diddly squat at my LGS in terms of pistol powder. I have not taken the time, however, to drive to other "sporting goods stores" in the area that might carry powder.

Well my local guy/shop in town here has a decent supply of certain powders on hand. He has most of the Hodgdon line Winchester powders and IMR and Alliant. Not everything in those line but the ones asked for the most. I also learned that he no longer stocks Accurate or VihtaVuori powders. At one time years ago they did. If they get more request for such and they sell they might reconsider.

Desperate for 20 gauge powder, I stumbled onto some fresh 800X at the LGS. At $29.00/pound, I only purchased one. Starting to make factory ammo look attractive. I have had an 8 pounder of Unique on order for over a year, and still nothing. Even prepaid for it.
I'm hoping ADI/Hodgdon can get production going again. I wonder how much powder is anchored off the west coast while the dock workers labor dispute drags on. I also hope all the reorganization issues at Alliant get ironed out soon. I have always perceived Alliant as the best value in shotgun target powders. A return to that status would be nice.
Heard a lot of talk last year that RIO was getting into the US powder and component market. I guess it was just a rumor.
On an annual trip to visit relatives I stopped at a store in December of 2013 looking for shotgun powder. On the top shelf were two, one kilo containers of REX-0. I took one. 50 miles later I kicked myself for not buying both of them at $13.00/ pound. A year later, making the same trip, I found the other one kilo container of REX-0 still on the top shelf at the same gun store. of course I bought it. What I don't understand, why was it still there? I just don't get it.

Mule, I does surprise me that you got that other Rex a year later. It is not a common powder that the general reloading public would recognize. Another thing is load data some just don't research to find it.

I have quite a bit of REX left in my powder cabinet.

"0" makes a nice 7/8 ounce 12 ga target load. When it was available, I used quite a bit of "2" for handguns. Wish I had bought more.

I saw 6 lbs. of Varget on the shelf at Field & Stream today. At $44.99 a lb. I left every one of them there too. Stopped a couple miles down the road at the Erie Sports Store and they also had Varget at $29.99. I still didn't need any that bad yet but it's just amazing how some stores are still trying to gouge the customers.

Ok so I as looking for my boss online today for some pistol powder and went to my favorite place online Mid South and low and behold they have the following: Accurate No's 5, 7 & 9, Imr 4227, RamShot zip, silhouette, Alliant blue dot, mr300, power pistol and Hodgdon HS6. I more than likely missed a few others but I was happy to see Power Pistol so the boss will quit bugging me LOL................

I was just on my LGS online auction, they had 2 lots of BL C2 5#s each lot, and they went for $117.00 & $119.00 plus 13% buyers fees and 6% sales tax. He has had several other lots of different powders and they were selling much higher just 6 or so weeks ago, if memory serves $135.00 plus, plus. I still am looking for CFE Pistol, I have 3# of CFE .223 in the cabinet right now, just need to find some time to work some loads up. It looks as though the prices are coming down ever so slightly, I hope. Heading over to Mid-South after this.

I guess I have been lucky since I started selling my knives at local gun shows. Nobody caters to reloaders anymore here in South Fla. Gun stores do not stock powder or components anymore. And the couple that do carry them ask for exorbitant prices. $44.00 for a pound of Varget!!!. At least at local shows prices and availability are back to realistic prices. I have met a couple of out-of-state suppliers that even give me discounts as fellow exhibitor! Can't beat that!

Well just went to my local shop and found that shotshell and pistol powder is slim but had a good selection of rifle powders. My main reason to stop in was to see what he had on shotshell and pistol powders. He has been out of H-International and H-Universal. He was out of Win Super Field. These shotshell powders I use quite a bit. Looks like I might have to try others to see how they work for me. As far as pistol powders go he didn't have much on hand. I think the only thing he had was Win Auto Comp. There is a show coming up I hope I have better luck there. So how is shotshell and pistol powders in your area at this time?

You can also try 700X or Red Dot. I use both for pistol and 12gauge. They are more readily available. Don't know if you are familiar with Gunbot.net, but you can download the application to your phone. I have found some powders that way.

Chuck,Lex, I was asking what people are seeing at their local shops. I have found items online but was wondering what the locals had. I do like to support my local shops.

Unfortunately, here in Miami, Fl, no local gun shop carries much to cater to reloaders. My only salvation has been Gun shows. I can find most powders there. I just got a hook-up for IMR3031 and Red Dot and Unique. That should keep me going for a while. Next shows is the 17th of October. I'm good until then.

The Powder Fairy sprinkled some moon dust at the LGS.
The jug of Unique I ordered and paid for in December of 2013 finally arrived. As soon as deer season is done, I will be cranking out my favorite 20 gauge skeet loads.

Mule, Are you serious. This took almost two years to get? Was there any other source that you could've gone through to get that powder? A two year wait I'd be looking around for another source. I like buying from my local guy to but if they don't have it or can't get it I'll look around myself to see what I can find.

I stumbled on to some 700X and 800X but Unique was elusive. I haven't found any Clays or Clay Dot in the last two years either. When shotgun powders show up there is usually a feeding frenzy and you know what happens to the last hog at the trough.

Mule's story didn't surprise me. You guys all know how I feel about Unique-it and a lot of the Alliant powders, particularly the shot/pistol classics, have been scarce as hen's teeth for a long time, and although I don't have immediate need, I'm pretty much inclined to grab a pound of Unique if I see it at a relatively reasonable price. I hope Mule's score is a harbinger of things to come !

On the bright side, I prepaid for this order, I wasn't asked for any more money when I picked it up, although on the shelf prices have changed.

Guys I get using your LGS when you can. The LGS I use most often just doesn't stock very much in loading supplies. As for powder he can sometimes what I am looking for but most times he can't. When he can get what I am looking for it is usually just #1 kegs which I have gone away from and his prices are well high. I can order 3 or 4 #8 kegs and split the shipping and haz-mat charge between them which is why I get my powder online. With that said I have yet to see any were on line that keeps the stocks of powder that Mid South Shooters Supply dose.
