Makes me think the guys hunting with .223 AR's might be undergunned.

With a lot of hunting it boils down to the bullet weight and construction and placement of the shot. A hog this size would have me busy with the smoker for over a week.

BACON, did somebody say BACON? I like BACON. lol I wouldn't want to face that with my .22 Hornet in hand. That's a job for my, easy Chuck, .270 Win.

Pooh I have friends in Ga, SC and Tx that use nothing more than a 223 for hogs. They have killed a couple that were pushing 350-400lbs not 700. I have dog hunted hogs with some of them and those hogs are usually pretty pissed when you catch up to them. I have never felt under gunned with a 223 and a good old Nosler Partition.

Chuck, with the right bullet and placement, that shouldn't be a problem. Personally, I would bet you'd choose the right bullet, and given your preference for those little 7mm thingies, I know you've got experience in placement ! (Just what you'd expect from one of those .30 loving Neanderthals !) Happy Super Bowl or whatever it is today ! I'm going to be sorting some brass !

Now Pooh they are not 7mm thingies LOL. They are super sleek hard hitting extension of myself !!!!!!! Pooh the only other 22 cal bullets I would use are the 64gr Barnes TSX or the Nosler 64gr Bonded bullets with my preference between the two being the Barnes. Oh and yes I have used my 7mm thingies on hogs also..........

Pooh I wil be doing some hog hunting this year haven't the last couple by choice things have been busy and my GI issues. With those settled I am going to SC and Ga this year. No not with my 7mm thingies either nor a 223 but that will be what I test my 338 Fed out on. Figure either a 185 Barnes TTSX or 200 Speer HC.

Sounds good, especially if you tie into a big one. Did you end up with one of the Savages ? Curious, as I have a friend who's chomping at the bit for one in .338 Fed. Meanwhile, glad you're feeling up to it !

Pooh it's ordered it jus hasn't arrived yet. My guy was told it won't ship till 1 March or their about. My first trip south isn't till May when I go down to get my kids for the summer. That is the excuse I am using to spend the couple days before hog hunting. Sc will be August when I take them back home again I have to take a couple extra days.
