Well as I stated in my previous post here is the next 1911 question. Do you prefer the full length guide rod or do you prefer the GI type or original setup. My Rock Island 1911 has the full length guide rod my former Colt Combat Commander had the original setup. I have yet to get the Rock Island to the range. The original setup did me fine as I have shot other 1911's that were actually GI issue. The full length would add some added weight toward the muzzle. I have found the full setup takes a tad bit more scrutiny to do a field strip as compared to the original setup but really not that much.

I really think it is a matter of personal preference. The original GI setup is good. The full length is good too. I have also tried the bushing-less type also. They all have their quirks.

I am inclined to lean towards the full length especially on my 1911 that has a 6" barrel.
