Well I mean the RANGE!!!! Temps reached 46 degrees and the son-in-law and I plus the grandkids went to the range today. We tried sighting in his new AR in 6.8 (needs some work) my oldest daughter shot her Marlin in 30/30 we have some more work on that to do. The youngest grandson got to shot his Cricket 22 plus the rest had a chance with it to. Then up to the pistol range and I got to finally shoot my 1911. Almost had tears in my eyes since it has been several years since I shot a 1911. Had one jam with remanufactured 45acp which would not let the slide go to battery. After looking it over it was a simple fix but will have to look over the gun to see why it happened. Any way it was a JOY to send some rounds down range.

Give me a place to stand and a long-enough lever, and I will invariably break the lever.

Pooh, To tell ya the truth the weather being very cold and snowy did have me having a tissy. The warmth for this week is a God send. Being out to not just to enjoy myself but to enjoy the grandkids also. It is great when the grandkids go to the range. Just a real joy to watch them take part. I really enjoy watching my oldest granddaughter beat her mom at the 7 yard combat line with my three inch 5 shot 38spl and my little 9mm (Firestar). What a blast!

Hacker, where's all of the snow? It was up to my knees here before it started to melt today. I'm glad you got to go out and blow off some of the indoor air.

Kind of hard recovering brass in those conditions. Hot little chunks of metal sizzle all the way to the dirt.
I hope to get out soon and wring out my new Marlin Liberty Training Rifle before the April Appleseed I've signed up for.

Mule, I did a search of the Appleseed event. Awesome event to go to. Hope ya have fun and from reading about it looks like you'll need quite a bit of ammo for it.

hacker54, I have wanted to participate in an Appleseed for a long time but life kept getting in the way. The date is circled on the family calendar, my ticket has been purchased, ammo purchased and stored away, I'm going.
I hope I am not expecting too much. For an avid shooter and history buff, it sounds like heaven. Once and for all I will find out if I'm a Rifleman or a Cook.

For an avid shooter and history buff, it sounds like heaven. Once and for all I will find out if I'm a Rifleman or a Cook. Appleseed is GREAT! I went to a clinic a couple of years ago. Lots of really good rifle marksmanship training from top-notch instructors. Lots of rounds down range and lots of history too. Bring: 1. rifle with sling, (.22LR autoloader with 10rd mag is perfect) 2. appropriate clothing for the season 3. at least 500 rounds of ammo 4. food for lunch 5. plenty of water 6. shooting mat, (need this for shooting prone) 7. a bucket for spent brass, (they let you scrounge the brass and there is a lot of brass at these clinics) The 1st day is pretty much lots of instruction and critique by the instructors on your technique. The 2nd day is the AQT grind. (AQT stands for Army Qualification Training). They basically use the stuff from the field manual for scoring and training. Then, during each break, there will be lots of American Revolution historical lessons and stories. At our clinic, we had a re-enactor who shot a musket down range and showed us all the details of a typical American Regulars uniform and field kit. I plan on going again. Last time, I took my bolt action stripper-fed 5-shot 7mm Mauser. I was at a distinct disadvantage during the AQT time trials ... Yes, during the shooting for AQT, there is a time pressure. I definitely was not used to doing this shooting under time constraints. Next time, I am taking my 10-22
