Today we finished our latest toy at the range: a steel plate (Action Shooting) installation. Due to many restrictions, rules and countless limitations within the Dutch gun laws This is what is possible, even the target size and amount of targets is regulated. Most ranges and gun clubs are throwing in the towel these days. Plus most gun clubs have no funds left or no people/members who are handy with steel and a welding torch. As far as we know we are only of 4 gun clubs left with a steel plate installation. This being the only one that is approved.
So I gave the boys at my factory the official (Dutch Shooting Sport Association approved) drawing and this is made out of all 12cm thick AR550 grade 1 steel. This will last a life time. Most of it is made out of material that otherwise would been scraped. It's transportable in 3 major parts and all plates can be replaced within in less than 1 minute! It weighs 248kg fully set up. At the end I have about €80,-- used for some small parts and some hours pay to one of my employees who welled the thing together.
At the time we use a rope to reset the plates, but in the near future we will do it with a pneumatic system. It's been prepared to get a pneumatic system been attached. Only I had not a heavy duty pneumatic system laying around (that I cloud mis) .
Now we can organize official competitions. Note, to hold on to your "larger caliber" (.38 and up) handguns one must be a member of a gun club that can organize large caliber competitions. If your gun club does not have that possibility you must turn in your guns. I guess we will see many new memberships coming up soon. The nearest gun club that has a steel plate installation is 180km away nobody will travel up to 360km for a couple hours shooting/fun. So in a range of about 100km or less we will expect lots of interest of large caliber gun owners.
