Good evening folks! Y'all can probably surmise what I'm about to say.....[still shaking my head over this one] About a year and a half ago, Everglades was advertising 1,000 pieces of Lake City uncleaned 5.56 military BLANK brass for REALLY cheap.....$52.00. I was WOWED by the price and ordered a case as fast as I could type in my credit card numbers. Of course when I received the box and opened it, I was SORELY disappointed to find out that it was indeed crimp-mouthed brass actually used for blanks; not exactly what I was looking for...live and learn, eh? I know there is someone here who could use this brass to convert it for 300 AAC Blackout...just can't remember who. Since this brass is unusable to me, it's up for grabs just for the cost of shipping. Whoever wants it, it's yours, as I don't feel like storing a box of useless brass that's just going to take up space and gather dust. So whoever is first to respond, you've got 1,000 pieces of Lake City 5.56 BLANK brass to do with as you please...$0.00 + shipping. The box will weigh approximately 14 lbs. 11 oz. and I'll be shipping from the Spring, TX area if that helps you calculate how much the shipping will be. To whomever wants this, we can figure out the shipping arrangements/reimbursement later...maybe PayPal cash gift? Heck...if you live somewhere in the North part of Houston, I'll meet you someplace convenient. I don't recall if Everglades posted a picture of the brass on their website (if they did, I obviously didn't pay too much attention ), but this is exactly the condition of the brass... I'll keep this posted here for a week and give someone on this forum board the first right of refusal. If I don't hear anything back by next Wednesday night, I'll post it over on another forum board. Thanks!

ERJ, First off excerpt from your post: "Everglades was advertising 1,000 pieces of Lake City uncleaned 5.56 military BLANK brass" The key word here is BLANK. You got just what you ordered. Most military blanks are made this way even 7.62 Nato and if ya can find them 30-06. A special device is inserted in the barrel at the muzzle to help build up the pressure to make the action work. The blank brass that I have seen seems to be longer in the neck as to where the bullet would be. I have read where people have cut this part off so one can have brass of the proper length and I do believe they had to turn the necks also. What length do they measure at? How long from base to the tip and how long from base to where the case mouth would be?

Oh believe me, hacker...I'm not blaming Everglades in the least bit. This was my own doing...stupidity 100% all the way!! I'll get those measurements tomorrow and post again.

OK...I measured 4 cases:
Overall Length...base to tip: 1.892", 1.881", 1.889", 1.898"
Base to mouth: After completely cutting off the mouth crimp, it appears there would still be plenty of neck to work with, given the minimum SAAMI spec is 1.720". Total length BEFORE sizing would be NO LESS THAN 1.735" - 1.740".
Given these measurements, I COULD use this brass if I wanted, but I honestly don't want to spend any more time prepping brass than I have to...ESPECIALLY 5.56/.223. I have MORE than enough "regular" 5.56 brass to keep me busy over the next couple of years, so removing these from my inventory would have no impact on me.
Having said that, I made the offer in good faith to give this brass away for the cost of shipping. I will keep that good faith offer open until 11:59:59 pm Wednesday 13 MAY.....

Hi Erj-Nice offer ! I'm awash in .223 or I might take you up on it. Has anyone done anything with Everglades recently ? Their site looks a little dusty. Just wondering.
In the meantime, I noted you're shipping from TX. Given the Bruins avatar, I took it you were up in my neck of the woods. Transplant ?

Everglades seems to be doing fine...most everything I've ordered from them still ships quickly, but I have enough brass on hand at the moment that I haven't needed to order anything for a while. Ahhhhh...the Bruins. We moved to Westport, MA (right outside New Bedford) when I was 9...that's where the B's took hold. To watch and witness the days of Bobby Orr, Phil Espo, Gerry Cheevers, Johnny Bucyk, Wayne Cashman, Derik Sanderson, et.al., was AWESOME growing up!! We moved from there sometime in 1973 to upstate New York. I've been in Texas since 1984, so it's home for me. Still love the B's and Sox!!!

Thanks for the update re: Everglades ! I can't imagine what Bobby Orr would have been like if he would've had the medical advances of today that could have repaired his knees/hips and prolonged his career. As for hockey, I did the next best thing.....Officiated high school and NCAA for 13 seasons as a USA Hockey Level III hockey official. Hung up the skates in 2003 when aviation became my full-time career. All of a sudden, the off chance of a puck or stick in the eye really meant the end of that!

Er: That was a very generous offer thank you for the thought. I am probably the only person in the continental USA that doesn't have a .223/5.56 rifle of some sort so I don't need it.

I happen to be flush with 5.56mm brass right now myself but do thank you for the kind offer. I think this is one of the great things about this group. We have the ability to offer materials from time to time as well as the wealth of fantastic information this little group has among its membership. Thanks again.
