It seems as though availability of components is getting better. I just went through Midway's supplies and found everything I wanted!

Bob, how did you do with powder ? That seems to be the big block these days. Up here in New Hamster, we get blocks of stuff, like a bunch of Varget (after I spent six months trying to score a pound). Standbys like Bullseye, Unique and the like are scarce as hen's teeth. One of the major dealers in the state says that Accurate Arms stuff isn't shipping. What's your experience ?

Most rifle powders are pretty easy to get nowadays. Also; the prices are very near the pre-panic levels too.
Pistol powders, on the other hand, are not so easy to find.
I have found WSF, Bullseye and Unique out there. HP38 is very difficult to find

Pssssshh...forget powder at Midway unless you want IMR rifle powder in limited choices. I e-mailed back and forth with their customer service group a couple of months ago inquiring about the deal with pistol powders and their lack of being able to get it (as is the case with everyone else). They really didn't offer any assistance other than giving me instructions on how to set up a notification/alert sent to my e-mail when it DOES get in stock. Well DUUUUUUUHHH!!! I KNOW how to do that and explained I didn't need a lesson on "Internet 101". Additionally, by the time you get the e-mail "alert", the powder is sold out. In short, Midway has ZERO clue when they'll get pistol powder in stock. It will probably appear on their doorstep unannounced after a glittered unicorn in rainbow colors evacuates it from its lower bowel. ETA:The last batch of pistol powder I bought was when I visited mom in Shreveport for her 80th birthday in March. I got a wild hair and started calling the LGS looking for pistol powder and found a pawn shop, of all places, that had a good supply. So we trekked off in the car and I bought a 4 lb. keg of Alliant Power Pistol, 8 lb. keg of Alliant Unique, (3) 1 lb. jugs of IMR 4756 and (3) 1 lb. jugs of Hodgdon Titegroup. It of course cost me more than if I could have bought it online, but guess what? It's now sitting in my powder cabinet instead of my waiting for it to come back in stock online. I will give credit to Powder Vally, Inc....my brother just bought (10) 1 lb. jugs of Ramshot Silhouette and it actually showed in stock for about 10 days before getting sold out. If you order from Powder Valley, though, be prepared to wait about 10 days for it to be delivered...it took them a full 7 days just to get it shipped, but they were really good to deal with as a company.

Pooh, Powders in general haven't been a big issue with me, as I purchased a number of different powders in 2 -4 # lots prior to the great panic. I also have a good relationship with a local that always seems to have what I need at a fair price. My LGS also takes care of me,I think it's due to something called customer loyalty. I have only purchased powder online 1 time, that cured me!

Just about every time I go to my LGS, the girl that primarily works there...I think she's a family member of the owner(s)...acts like I'm a gross inconvenience to have disturbed her day, BARELY acts like I'm a customer at all, and has such a flippant persona as to whether or not she cares if I even come back. That's the primary reason I don't even bother with my LGS and I don't know of any others in my area that aren't an hour or more away that has what I need. They currently do have a VERY good assortment of rifle powder in stock and might...MIGHT...just now be starting to get some pistol powders in. I haven't been there in several weeks, so I'm not sure. I just never have a "warm and fuzzy" when I walk out of the place simply because of the way I'm treated and it's always a crap-shoot of how I'm going to be treated when I do walk into the place. And I've been in there MANY times to buy odds and ends for reloading, so it's not like I walk in, just look around, and walk out. I actually try to buy SOMETHING every time I go in there.

Erj, Yes it is great to have this type of relationship, I always ask them first then if they can't get what I want I find it (sometimes) elsewhere then let them know where. I had another long term relationship with a sport shop (fishing and firearms) which lasted from 1946 'till 2007 then the clerks started acting like your's. They are now out of business and the founder is turning over in his grave.

Online Powder Valley is pretty good so is Natchez but I now buy a lot of stuff from Mid South Shooters Supply. My local guy sometimes can not find what I need like today new brass for my 25-06 so pop onto Mid South and pick it up cheaper even with shipping. He is pricey on powder #8 kegs are running me $210 through him so I have been ordering them from Mid South since I usually buy 3 at a time it isn't all that big a hit with hazmat and shipping. I still can not find my HOLY GRAIL Ramshot HUNTER though.

My lgs is getting large stocks of powder every 2 weeks, the key is he is getting large stocks of 1 or 2 types of powder only at a time. The last shipment was only Reloder 15 and Varget in 1# cans. I stocked up nicely at the time since I love both of those powders. All of the pallet of each were gone by the end of the week. The newest shipment this morning was benchmark and something like ar comp (both of which I don't use). It's been hit or miss for months, with only alliant and hodgen powders showing up. This dealer back in the day carried every type of powder under the sun. His stock of primers is over eight ft high too! Most popular bullet selections are in stock also. He claims only pistol powder and new brass is impossible to get from his suppliers right now. The problem with pistol powders is when they show up some guys are buying 50#'s at a time (this dealer doesn't have purchase limits ever). Likely the same guys who were buying all the .22lr a while back.

I bought two 1 lb canisters of BULLSEYE ! ! ! That is not a typo . . . I actually bought two pounds of Bullseye. My local guy has been trying to get it for well over a year. His supplier sent him ten 1 lb canisters last week. There were a few of us on his list so he sold each of us 2 pounds. This is the last of the powders I have been looking for. It looks like the drought may have come to an end. The only thing I have on my "can't find list" are some rather odd-ball bullets.

I only have one place to point out MID SOUTH SHOOTERS SUPPLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have used them more and more the last year and have yet to have a single issue with them. They currently have the best selection on powders I have found online case in point I ordered #8's of IMR 4895, 4064, 4320, AA 4350, Mag Pro, H414, 380, Superformance and 335 in the last couple months and a quick check shows they still have them in stock. I am mulling over trying some Norma powders now and of course they have all of those in stock as well.

Mid south does seem to have a good selection! I just ordered some Hornady .220 Swift brass. Has any one used the Hornady brass?

Bob I use Hornady brass in a few calibers. It's pretty good stuff you may need to adjust your load as in 22-250 and 7RM I have slightly less case capacity than the Norma I was using. Also after you fire form you might want to anneal it as the case necks seem a little on the soft side. Over all I have no complaints.

Thanks, Chuck. I the case capacity is less than Norma's then it probably will be less than the Winchester brass.

Mredoc I can get powder here for those prices all day long. They say they are not charging shipping because it is built into their price. You really are not saving anything at all at least not over what I would pay locally.

A few guys here I know and swap load data with (I trust them) called me this morning wanting to put a group order together only they couldn't find some of what they wanted as far as powder and primers went. I asked what they were looking for and volume they wanted and laughed when they told me. I just got off the phone with Mid South the order filled and I added a couple powders for myself as well.
ORDERED: 3lbs each- RL22 (me), CFE223 (Jim), IMR8208 (Calbert), H380 (Greg) 5lbs each- IMR (4895 (me/Jim), RL25 (Greg) 8lbs each- IMR4064 (Calbert), IMR4350 (Greg/Jim) 2lbs- RL15 (Brian)
1000ct each- CCI #34 (Brian), Win WLR, Rem 9 1/2M, Win WLRM 3000ct- CCI 200 2000ct- Rem 9 1/2 (Me)
To say they were surprised when I called and told them they owed me $$$$$ and I needed it in the morning. Had to break the powder into 2 deliveries and addresses but I got it done. Up next they want bullets but they can do that one on their own.

I visited my favorite watering hole for reloading supplies and was very surprised to see the powder shelves full with some cases stacked on the floor. The majority was rifle powders but there were some on the shelves that I had never seen there before. Prices were fair and average for this part of the country.

Just ad my first truly head scratching moment with Mid South. Last week (wed) the step son ordered #8's of IMR4064, 4831 and 7977 all were listed as in stock, When I got home yesterday the wife handed me the UPS slip and box. The slip was correct so I opened the box and that's when the head scratch moment happened inside the box was #8's of IMR4227, 4320 and 7828SSC . I will call then at 8 CST when they open and hopefully get it all sorted out easily I hope as they still list all 3 powders in stock.

Sorry Bob I should have added a disclaimer some thing like: I am a non paid non attorney non company spokes person I do not benefit in the least from my shameful boasting about the quality, pricing, service or selection at the afore mentioned Mid South Shooters Supply. Oh yeah and that replacement powder arrived yesterday Fed EX to work you really can not beat that turn around time on powder and the miss shipped left on the same truck.
