Ok so in spite my dislike for the good ole '06 I bought one last week. It is a Winchester XPR (new model). Well since I have it decided I should go ahead and shoot it. It currently wears a set of Talley rings and a Silver Nikon Buckmaster 3x9x40 Nikoplex scope that I had on hand. The rig weighs in at 8.17lbs which makes it an easy rifle to carry. The 60 degree bolt throw is short and smooth. The magazine sticks out a bit from the stock but locks up nice and tight on mine. The trigger is as advertise zero creep zero over travel mine did break at 3.75lbs and was very clean. The stock to me has a cheap end feel however it is an entry level gun with an Innoflex recoil pad which is very nice.
As for shooting I ran 40 125gr Nosler BT's through it over start charges of 2 powders IMR4320 & 4895. Both loads were some once fired Rem brass with WLR primers. The rifle was accurate enough I kept all 40 in distinctive 5 shot groups with all 8 groups being 1.15" or less and an average group size of an even 1". I did have the last group print at .79 but that and the 1.115" were the exceptions to the MOA groups. All in all despite it being an '06 I was pleasantly surprised at the rifle. Would I buy another yes if it came in a caliber I was looking for at that time.

Yea Bob I heard tha it coulded het a skeeter inda behin at like 200yd ifen it was loaded right .....
In all seriousness Bob I have shot a bunch of the "entry level" guns on the market. The Ruger American, Savage Axis and Edge, Browning A-Bolt II and III, Weatherby Vanguard S1 and S2 and the Remington SPS. With all of them if you took your time and had a good shooting foundation and maintained your form all of them can shoot MOA. That said the Ruger America is the entry level rifle that most surprised me with the way it shot.

I do have one other surprise with this rifle the barrel has been very easy to keep clean. I mean to the point that it surprised the heck out of me. It has not taken more that a couple soaks in Wipe out Patch out and Accelerator to do the trick and get me a nice white patch.

I found this rifles week link in this rifle 347 rounds and the extractor broke. The entire extractor came out of the bolt.

Talked to Browning/Winchester today about my rifle they received it and will put the work order in for it they are saying 6-9 week turn around. That will put me right up against deer season before it's back with me. I still haven't done anything beyond 200yds with it so it more than likely will stay home come deer season.
