It has been quit a while that I have been active on the forum. I have many significant projects going on right now for my company. Spending lots of time traveling from the Netherlands to New York (State & City). I’m a extremely busy and shooting/hunting has taken a back seat, but some spare time for shooting is coming up during the summer holidays.
In the meanwhile there have been lots of changes regarding the shooting sport and hunting laws in the Netherlands.
Currently (since may 1st ) we no longer can reload ammo without a special permit for owning, transporting and trading gunpowder. Meaning we are no longer allowed to buy and transport 1kg of “any” kind of powder. We are only allowed to transport 1kg of gun powder per vehicle (not per person). Plus you are limited of max 1kg of Black powder and max 1kg of smokeless powder in your possession at home. So no more experimenting with powders. If you need several powders you either need to buy the small (454gr packages), stop reloading or get rid of some guns. Plus you now need a special storage box or cabinet at home to store gun powder. After the police does check this storage you will receive this permit. I have applied for this permit and it will take up to 6 months to receive it. In the meanwhile I can not buy any kind of reloading component within the Netherlands.
There is now also a full registration of all the transactions you did a gun store. You and the gun store must keep all transaction registrations for 3 years. Your purchases must all add up with all the shots fired at the range and during hunting. During the (unannounced) house calls you must prove that everything is in good order and add up. Due to this all the gun stores now increase the prices and there is nearly nothing on stock. A box (1000 pcs) of CCI LP primers is now 64.75 Euro’s and a small 454 grams bottle of Hodgdon Varget will cost you 74.00 Euro’s. Or a box of 250 Berry’s plated .45ACP 230gr RN bullets cost 154.00 Euro’s. Last week I bought these same bullets at a gun store in upstate NY for $37.00, when I passed the Dutch customs I payed in total 54.35 Euro’s for these bullets...... wow, this is utterly ridicules.
And today (June 15) a new anti hunting law has passed the parliament: For every single animal (game) you like to hunt you need a written permission by the state (provincial) hunting commission. In the commission is representative by the hunting organization, the state and new is a representative of an environmental organization and the RSPCA (local animal protection). All 4 parties must grand you permission, if even 1 says no you are out of luck.
This is effectively means that you need to “lobby” for shooting even 1 single kind of game (and amount), even when you already have a permit and a license. Before there was no need for an environmental organization and the RSPCA and a regular permit was granted 8 out of 10 times. These days you are extremely lucky if can hunt at all. Note, if you can’t prove you can or did hunt within 1 year you automatically loose your permit and licenses, and there is no way you will get a new permit/license. Meaning that you also no longer can own hunting related guns. Thanks to the current government we still can hunt under these conditions, as soon as we have a new (left wing orientated) government there will be a permanent ban on hunting. This is the end of hunting in the Netherlands within 2 years.
Also ISPC, DSR, Cowboy Action, Steel Plates and regular Action Shooting and Silhouette Shooting is under heavy fire from the government as well. A couple months ago the government was very happy that gun owners did set up a high quality and competition. This was so successful that over 1400 gun owners signed up for it in less than 1 month. This surprised/scared the government and now they will consider if they only will allow .22LR pistols or set a limit on the amount of gun owners who can shoot these disciplines.
Looks like reloading and hunting will be banned in the very near future and all dynamic disciplines will be regulated by the government. It’s just a matter of time.
