Ok so over the last few days I have fire formed some brass for my 338 Federal using factory Federal 200gr bullets. The brass as I type this is in the tumbler having been trimmed, annealed, prepped and made ready to load. So I am starting out with 2 bullets and weights the 215gr Sie GK and the 200gr Nos CT. I have done a little work with this round before the primers are going to be Fed 210's. I am thinking about starting off with IMR8202, H4895 with 200gr Nosler's and Leverevolution and H4895 with my 215gr Sierra's. I also have a couple other powders on hand to try H322, 335, Varget, IMR3031 and 4064.

Looks like fun work ahead. Have you given any consideration to CFE 223 as this powder is listed for quite an array of cartridges? As per my son-in-law he wants to stay with one powder for his rifles. I have a good loads for his S&W AR in 5.56/.223 and his Savage Axis in 308 Win. He wants to use said powder in his Rock River in 6.8 Rem. SPC but there is no data as of yet. I'm waiting for Hodgdon to get back to me on that issue until then we have other powders to try out for that.

Gary I have zero interest in that powder. I know a couple guys that use it but eh I never really wanted to try it.

That H 4895 looks to be a good bet! I tried Re 19 with 200 gr. Nosler Partitions in my .325 and wasn't all that happy gonna try some H 414 next. Trying to get some 200 gr Ballistic Tips.

Ok so I started out with the 215gr Sie Gk's this afternoon and H4895 41-45.2 in .3 steps up the cycle and 3 shot groups. I found once I got above 44gr the groups all held moa with 44.9 hold .70 (I will reshoot that one). I will also finish out the cycle to 46gr and see what happens. Next week I will run a 200gr Nos CT cycle with IMR8208 and see what it dose.

Ok so this morning I mange to shoot my 200gr Nos CT cycle with IMR8208 (44.0-47.0) eh it was ok nothing earth shattering form 46.1-46.7 was the most accurate they held moa 3 shot groups velocity from my 20 inch tube was ok 2540-2588 in those powder charges. I also finally finished the 215gr Sie load with H4895 and 45.5 and 45.8 both held right at .70 along with the 44.9 load. I will reshoot and chrono those in the next few weeks. I am thinking that the short 20" tube might not give me the real small groups but this is going to be an up close and personal rifle.

Chuck, Looks like some good results there. Loads holding at MOA and .70 even though you got a 20 inch tube it should handle up close and out past 100 yards just fine.

Ok so in spite of my strange weekend I did manage to lock down a load for this rifle. I settled on 45.5gr of H4895 under a 215gr Sie GK. I ran three 10 shot strings and this one was the winner hands down. My 10 shot string @ 100yds was just over 1.255 inches with an ave velocity of 2477fps I had an SD of 10 and an ES of just 13. The next closest load was 44.9gr of H4895 with a 10 shot string of 1.459 inches a velocity of 2427fps with an SD of 14 and an ES of 18. Not totally bad but I think for the purpose I have this rifle either load would do the trick.
I also tried the 200gr Nos CT with H4895 and it just did not like that bullet. Best 3 shot group @ 100yds was just 1.228 would that work up close and personal sure but I wasn't comfortable with that load or those results. Could the short tube have come into play sure but the heavier bullet was just better.
