Ok fellas I have got to ask IS UP WITH A THIEF? The area around the shop were I work has been targeted by thieves the last couple months. They are brazen and bold hitting day or night businesses and residential with out let up. They don't worry about alarm systems either they just cut phone lines. They do not really care what they take either, jewelry, TV's, coins, money, guns, cars, trucks, a Bobcat, hell they even took a 324 Cat Excavator. I am only posting because my work finally go hit this evening that's were the Cat Excavator comes in. Our business sits right on a busy 4 lane Highway WV RT 19. Yet big as balls they not only got in the building doing damage and stealing everything they could carry they took a dam excavator right out of the shop and used it to dig our road gate out. I just got done with the state police and we have them on tape with all 6 cameras and we are not the only ones to have them on tape. I have had tight times financially and have never even once thought about being a dam thief. So what the hell posses someone to steal what is not theirs? The lone bright spot is they had to work fast so they did miss the bench I still keep here along with both pistols I keep in a lock box for late night deposits and when I am stuck here over night or late into the night. Oh and our alarm doesn't work through the phone line it is sat monitored so it did alert me as soon as I got home. Which I wish is were I was going tonight but I am waiting for the owner and a carpenter to get here to board up the windows they smashed getting into the building.

If Velociraptors were real I'd like a couple to use as guard dogs. Makes me sick.....and look at the monster in Louisiana today. We need more guns not less...to defend good people against the real monsters.
It they used your cat......maybe one of your operators knows something.........

Greg most people here know how to run equipment from either logging or coal mining so I seriously doubt one of the current employees here is involved. That's not to say a former employee wasn't involved because he was. Hell he even waived at the camera before smashing out the bathroom window. It's more than likely a good thing I decided to go home after making the bank deposit instead of coming back to do paperwork like I always do on Fridays. But it is what it is the machine is more than likely on its way out of WV or it would be found real easy.

Chuck that's a 50,000 lb +/- machine. I'd like to joke and say I just ordered one from back east for little money but given my feeling about someone stealing tools I can't. I understand the violation part all too well also. In my mind jail time isn't enough for tool thieves or vandals.

Chuck, Sorry to hear of the theft. The former employee was either very cocky or just plain stupid to wave at the camera. From what you have stated looks like a crime ring there in your neck of the woods. Big equipment is hard to fence unless they had someone lined up already. I do hope things work out for you and the business.

Chuck, for what's it's worth, the outfit doing a project up at the college where I teach night classes lost a pile of stuff from the site earlier in the week. One of the things that happens a lot around here is theft of copper and other metals, but these guys took tools, as well. The loss is bad, but the disruption to all concerned can be as bad too. I'm glad you're ok, other than having to rent space in your head to these guys.

Two of them are in custody. Including the former employee. That Cat has gone poof like a fart in the wind. All in all other than being tired it is looking like a pretty good day. BTW I packed up the bench I keep here this morning. Those pistols will also be leaving with me.
Bob you are right that's a pretty good sized machine it's also a young machine 2013 with fewer than 2000hrs so it is still basically new. Machine like that retails for about 200k we got it in trade for a logging spread so figure about 110K. I would have listed it at 165K for a quick sale. I emailed those in my Cat circle and all the local Cat dealer and parts ppl the SN#.
Boys I do not feel violated I am just pissed off. Pissed I had to come all the way back here yesterday. Pissed I was stuck here last night instead of being at home. Pissed I didn't get to shoot last night like I planned. All in all I am just pissed at the entire thing.

Chuck, I had my shop broken into, as well as several vehicles in my storage lot had sound equipment stolen, several years ago. I had some satisfaction although, as their method of entry was to break the garage door glass and push the door opener button. Long story short, I moved the "real" door opener button out of reach, and rigged up an airbag out of one of my scrap cars to go off upon depressing the button, I positioned it so as to hopefully break someones arm. I didn't have to wait long, about a week later the same glass was busted out again, and there was blood all around the frame for the glass. Success! They never came back while I was in that building, although the new tenant had had problems about a year after I moved out. He even took over the "contract" on my (joke) ADT alarm system, they defeated that without a problem, & it never went off. He was also assaulted with a baseball bat one night when he caught them under one of his cars stealing the catalytic converter! He is so liberal, he wont carry a gun! Had that been me vs. the baseball bat, I would've had him DEAD to rights! So I am glad I moved out when I did.

Glad they caught them. Too bad about the machine though, also having to pack up your "work" bench. Isn't that excavator a permit load (over width) it shouldn't get passed the scales unless they didn't move it far.

Chuck, Glad they got a couple of them. Hope the investigators can come up with where the excavator went. Something like that is hard to sneak around with.

The Cat was covered in Whytheville, Va at a roadside DOT check point. When the driver couldn't produce a bill of lading, nor permits for moving an oversized load we installed 30 inch track pads. The fact that WV and VA state police work so well together made this happen plus the machine had our deal stickers all over it which prompted the phone call to the local trooper barracks. So the driver told the DOT officer were he picked the machine up and now it's just a matter of time before the other 2 are caught. We have a recovery driver in bound now with the machine. We have to hold the machine for 120 days or until the investigation is complete but I am HAPPY AS A PIG IN SHIT RIGHT NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great news, Chuck. May the perpetrators get what they have coming (all of it).
A friend of mine (deceased now) who had a MayFlower Moving business lost a Tractor and Van in Texas a few years ago.....disappeared from a motel parking lot during a one night stay. Never recovered.....probably went to Mexico...a Mayflower van....slightly large.....fairly easy to spot..... Good guys don't always win.....you are sooo lucky. Thank Heaven for that.
