With mineral spirits and nu-finish in the walnut I very seldom run the top on my FA tumbler. I don't use dryer sheets now and don't notice any build up of dust around the tumbling area. The media is moist, it cleans awesome, and no dust. Try it to tame the dust bowl.

Hey Gary ~ I did not realize that Lyman did not come with solid lid on their vib' type tumblers. I have had my RCBS for years and it came with a solid lid for tumbling and the slotted lid to use for separating cases from media as you dump it out. Just to see what you are talking about I put the slotted lid on the tumbler and ran it a few minutes. You're right about dust! Very fine walnut shell dust all over the bench in just a few minutes. Your solid lid should fix the problem. I also have one unit that I use corncob media and Flitz Additive. It's not "wet" but not dusty dry like the walnut shell media. When I ran it with the slotted lid there was no sign of dust. ~ SnapShot (Larry)

Larry, I also run the corncob with the polish added and get no dust. Lyman does have tumblers that come with a solid lid. It depends on what model you get. As I stated earlier if your unit came with a sifter lid one can purchase a solid lid for it. What I do is run the brass through the walnut first to get the worst off then in the corncob that has the polish in it to finish off the brass and this is with the sifter lid on.

Give me a place to stand and a long-enough lever, and I will invariably break the lever.

Not only utilitarian, but pretty elegant touch to the tumbler. Now if you could turn a matching wooden bowl... ;-)

Nice work Gary ~ And I picked up your comment that you "cleaned you bench" . . . that's something I really need to do. ~ Larry

Pooh, Thanks for the compliment. A wooden bowl in Red Oak would sure be very elegant but NOT very practical.
Larry, Yes I do that. That is clean the loading benches every now and then. I am in the process of reorganizing my loading area again trying to utilize my limited space. I just mounted a shelf unit that my oldest daughter made in shop years ago. This gave me more options to reorganize.
