Well today Dec. 05, 2015 was the first day that for in the WMU (Wildlife Management Unit) that I hunt in that you can shot a doe if you have the proper tag. Yesterday I had three go by me at about 15 feet away but alas no hat rack so no can shoot. So I tell my son-in-law that today is meat day and will take the meat gun. That would be my 7mm-08. I used the rounds I loaded sometime back to try on deer. Now my usual load is Rem brass; W748; CCI 250 primer; and Nosler 140gr Ballistic Tip. Man I do love that load but used these others. Again Rem brass but in the Nickel form W760 again CCI 250 primer and Rem 125gr Spiters. Now these bullets are no longer available as I got them at a show years ago. I wanted to see how they would do.
The doe came into the corner of the field I'm in the wood up the small hollow that borders this field and waited for a clear shot. She was walking along the edge then came into the woods and I lost sight of her briefly then found her again. She was looking straight toward me and wouldn't give me a side shot so I center the crosshairs under her head on the neck and squeezed of the shot. DRT both dropped right there and dead right there. Distance and I'm guessing here somewhere around 50 to 65 yards. It could be more but I don't know. So now next week I will concentrate on try to bag a buck and for this I'll be taking my single shot 30/30 as I have yet to bag a buck with this caliber. I have taken buck with my 7mm-08 Rem and 444 Marlin but none with the 30/30. So the hunt will continue on!!
