I recently was informed that my homeowners insurance only covers $2,500.00 worth of guns, and is limited, at best for add ons/accessories. I am curious as to where I can buy more of an "umbrella" policy that maybe would cover Everything, including my reloading Items, product for reloading on hand, ammo, scopes, lights, holsters, etc. I have submitted a "schedule" of what I have to my homeowners agent, and really have gotten no reply back from him as of yet (little over a month now). I know the holidays and all but, maybe he is trying to tell me something without saying it aloud, if you know what I mean. What are you doing to insure your collection and are there any insurance companies out there that specialize in guns, and related items, like there are for old cars etc.? I may start a poll on this topic, if input suggests that I do so. Or someone else can, as I am not sure how to set one up.

Give me a place to stand and a long-enough lever, and I will invariably break the lever.

Sparky, NRA used to have a deal going with an outfit that did such a thing, and it would be worth checking. I don't know who's your agent for your homeowner's/auto stuff, but... If it's one of the biggie outfits (like the one with the lizard spokesman) response may not be as fast as with a local independent agent. Quotes shouldn't be that hard to come by. This may be a sign it's time to look. I'm a lawyer, but I depend on my local guy to have the quick, fast answer. He knows my situation, so we don't get bogged down in a lot of detail. (I preach this to my Business Law classes, as well.)

I'm not sure but I think if memory serves it comes under my personal property coverage. I know I had to photo my firearms and photographic junk to get coverage. They wanted serial numbers, model numbers and descriptions. I said no and gave them the photos and general descriptions with model numbers. Reminds me I need to send new information due to expansion. I don't know the cost as it is part of an "umbrella" which includes some art work and other stuff.

Pooh, yes hes a local, independent agent. He is in my "locals in business" group and got me phenominal rates for my business, and kicked A****ates butt to the curb for my homeowners. Apples to Apples on both. Yes the NRA does offer what seems to be a pretty good deal (around $12.50-$15.00 per $1,000.00), but nothing is mentioned about reloading equipment, supplies, or ammo. I would really like to cover all facets of hunting, shooting, & reloading, if its cost effective, all my reloading equipment is blue, so I got a huge amount invested. I already have a size-able rider for my tools in my shop, and my reloading equipment may fall under that, keyword being may. I run Roadside assistance in my towing business, for an outfit called "Herters", they insure classic cars, you set the value of your collection, no questions asked and they insure it. Kinda where I was going with that. So Far the NRA is all that I see out there.

Most criminals wont think twice about the ammo or reloading tools. Notice I said most. Everything is super heavy and most of us are in a corner of the basement where they would have to pack everything up and out the stairs.
I have been moving everything from the back of my office to my house in the last month and packing components up and down stairs really sucks. All of our major tools are bolted to a bench and the thug that broke in to your house wants quick and easy to unload supplies that any of his crack head buddies will trade for.
My wife's uncle is my agent and they wanted pictures and serial number along with descriptions of everything. My tin foil hat made me say no way. I have nice bolted down safes, security systems, a few cameras, and an extremely nosey gun toting neighbor. Life is full of what ifs but I'm happy .
Point of this rant is Safe Co and State Farm will insure everything for a price similar to your NRA quote, you just have to itemize everything and all deductibles apply. They will even cover supplies like powder and primers as long as they don't exceed the fire safety limits of storage for residences.
