Well after putting close to 700 rounds through my Hart Barreled 7-08 I feel the need for another one go figure. I have a couple of calibers in mind and shockingly enough neither is a 7 bore. I was thinking either a 25-06 which I have really begun to like or getting 22-250. I have a donor Weatherby Action for either of them but I still haven't made up my mind. So what are the thoughts of my friends on this one I am always open to suggestions as you all know.

Well Chuck, since you mentioned "quarter bore" you probably can guess my recommendation. I would go with the .257 Rob'ts or the A.I version for the simple fact that the old .257 with the new powders will do the same thing or even surpass the 1/4-'06, at least that has been my experience using W/W brass. I know the W/W brass is hard to find but you like Norma or Lapua anyway. I got up to 3,165 fps with 117 gr. Sierra PH and 3,000 + with 120 gr Nosler Partitions using Hybrid 100 V powder. I could have gone faster I think but even at that I have backed off a bit and accuracy was very good ,< moa.

I thought about building a RBTS Bob but when I finally do pull the trigger on another RBTS it will have to be a gulp used Win Mod 70 pre 64. The RBTS I want will replace the one I lost in a fire a few years ago. Good suggestion though food for thought. Plus brass is a pain in the ass to find unless you buy factory or make it from say 06 or 270 brass. As for my liking Norma or Lapua I do shoot other brass Hornady, Federal, WW, Rem I only do Norma or Lapua if I am buying virgin brass.
Oh and the wife is suggesting either a 260 (her new favorite) or a 7 Mag (she knows me all to well) I just want something different and granted neither of the clibers I am thinking of are really all that different LOL.........

Oh the dilemma! Since you mention the .26 caliber why not the 6.5-08 A Square. Yeah I know it is also called the .260 Remington but they stole it from A Square. Another option would be the hot rod .26 Nosler.

Well, if you want something to regenerate with, different, fun as hell.....and even easy to form from .243 brass, you could make a .22-243 Middlestead. Only problem is....it's faster than .22-250, will take some effort to find the best load......but then you seem to be a guy who likes a challenge! Both RCBS and Redding make dies for it. Good brass is plentiful.....even your favorite brand. Plenty of .22 bullets out there. Blistering FPS....reasonable recoil. Yup, fun as hell.

Well now not only is the wife weighing in with a 7RM but the step son and my brother in-law also. I have my mind made up on one thing this one will not be a 7 bore. Talked to my bosses son he has a Douglass Barreled 308 and 25-06 and he really like the 1/4 bore better. I am going to have to put some more think in this but if I want it back before deer season I need to think faster.

Deer season?!.......that hadn't even entered my mind.....I was responding to the .22-250 and "fun gun" side of the thread, not the meat and potatoes, trudging through the woods side..

Apparently GWS is not thinking ahead! (i'll run for cover now). Since it is not my money and your wife expressed an interest in the 6.5/ .26 bore the Nosler should fulfill your need for speed and her .26 fascination. I never saw much use for the .25'06 but then I'm old!

Ha Ha......I admit it I'm an avid shooter, but no deer hunter.....Now if a rancher will give me a cow to shoot.......sport has nothing to do with it.....taste everything. yum. If I have to eat one I will.....but only then. Elk is passing and I hear buffalo is fine....but give me a fillet any day! My "big" gun is boring.....308....and not that big. At 66 you think I'm going to start taking up shooting rifles that kick the hell out of you....those days are past.

Bob her and the stepson are now leaning hard toward a 7RM despite the fact I have said over and over I do not want a 7 bore. I actually do not want a mag of any kind what so ever. The 26, 28 and 30 Nosler no thank you not interested in the least. I am trying to plan for later on with this rifle as in when we head south end of next year. I have my mind made up now I am gonna go 25-06 will get the Vanguard all ready to go along with a check and instruction.

Bob their is a method to my madness I dug in my heels even though a Hart 7RM was the first thing to pop into my head. I am looking at farther down the road do I need a 7RM now no not at all. That caliber is like a comfy old shirt worn to tatters but you can't get rid of it for emotional reasons.

Chuck, I knew you were mad, I'm just glad to hear you have a method (reason) which by the way I sorta figger'd.
