I purchased a used Lyman 55 on another gun forum. Had minor rust on the exterior steel parts. The large slide seems to be froze up, the small slide on top of it is a little sticky but will move thru its normal travel. The large screw for the slide will turn back and forth only about a half turn. Both lock screws on the slide are working and have been loosened. Any recommendations on what to soak it in to loosen it up so I can take it apart and get it cleaned out?

Kroil, PB Blaster, Both work well for me. I use Kroil as a bore cleaner often does a real good job for that as well.

If you have access to an ultrasonic cleaner you might try putting the whole assemble in (no plastic here either). I had good luck with a handgun in terrible condition before striping it down. Good luck, that's a really good powder measure.

Give me a place to stand and a long-enough lever, and I will invariably break the lever.

Whatever you use, make sure it's all cleaned up well afterward. You don't want anything contaminating your powder !

Used PB Blaster that I had in my gun/reloading room. Don't have a sonic cleaner. took a bit of turning the large screw back and forth gently with some pliers with a piece of inner tube to protect the checkering on the screw. Now to clean all the parts and hopper. It was only 35 bucks with a RCBS stand, so I dont mind a bit of labor to clean it up. Have to polish the tarnish up on the top slider so I can read the scale. Thanks for all the help!

Savings aside, it's just a cool feeling to bring a piece of equipment back to service.

Indeed it does. Couldn't get the slides to polish up and found some old cooper pan cleaner and it was almost in instant. Flushed if with some acetone and then some hornady one shot till I get it ready to reassemble. Need a fine scotch pad or 0000 steel wool to clean up the steel cylinder. Had a Lyman back in 79 when I first started reloading with a lyman turret kit, didn't stay long with lyman long except the powder measure and moved to RCBS.....
