Whats your thoughts about the new Hornady bullets to replace the old stand by SST and Amax. The new ELD series are supposed to be really high BC and tips are supposed to not melt or deform while in flight

I wonder how much of their add is hype? I do like Hornady products but tend to stick with Sierra or Nosler bullets for hunting. Since most of my shots are under 300 yds. with the largest number being 100 - 200 yds I don't worry too much about B.C.. Additionally here in California, we won't be able to hunt with other than non lead bullets, the IDIOTs have spoken!
I think any technology that improves bullet performance is great. Try 'emand let us know what you think.

Savage, As Bob stated anything that is an actual improvement is for the better. Hornady has addressed the improvement two fold. They have one for the match crowd and one for the hunters. What I find interesting in the newer ones for the hunter that according to Hornady is the the ones for the hunter can be used in matches with good results. I think this is good that the hunter can compete with the same bullet he uses for hunting. As many know that match grade bullets command a higher price tag compared to hunting bullets even the premium hunting bullets. With that being said these new bullets are of a higher price. Will that be worth it only time will tell.

I had a chance to talk with the guys from Hornady while in Louisville. They really talk-up their new bullets and ammo. They claim that new materials in the polymer world have made it all possible. I know it's all part of marketing but their story sound really good and the test results they show looks even better. In all fairness, the guys at the Sierra booth had some very good things to say about their latest developments too. I agree that improvements are great and it sounds like the technology in the areas of materials and manufacturing methods are bringing some great improvements our way. Both groups said they are working on lead-free projectiles so those of us that are trapped in Communist Republic of Kalufornia may have some options in the future.

I thought it was kind of cool that they figured out the old polymer tip was melting and goofing up results over 300 yards. Nice piece of work ! On some academic level it's interesting, and I'll take notes against some dream hunt, but here in New Hamster it's hard to find a place, other than a mountain top, where you can get a shot over 200 yards !
Larry, I take it you meant the Sierra folks were positive about their competitor's developments ? If so, that's pretty classy !

I use a lot of Sierra and Hornady bullets for target and hunting with a few Nosler Accubonds or Ballistic Tips mix in. I've been thinking of trying the ELD-X hunting bullet in my STW and 6.5-06. If these new bullets shoot as accurate as the SST and Amax then I'm all in to try em

If you guys stuck in the Kalifornia Socialist Republic need help escaping, let me know. I know a guy with a hot air balloon, and there's still plenty of room in NW New Mexico.....only don't tell your liberal friends (if you keep such).....offer doesn't apply to them. Many of them have corrupted places in Utah and Colorado already! I've never used the new Hornady bullets.....waiting for practical guys like you try them out and steer me right.

Hey there gws ~ Be careful over there in N.M. . . . some artsy type liberals down the road from us escaped and went to Taos. They told the neighbors it's a great place and full of "their-kind" of people.
Poo ~ The Sierra guys at Louisville were not giving any details but indicated they were working on some new designs to match the Hornady designs.

Not to worry, SnapShot! the artsies in Taos are few and pretty low key.......they get too loud and the locals in the surrounding ranches may toss them into the Rio Grande Gorge. I'm skeered of heights like that....the river below looks like a small winding blue string....if I was a liberal artist living there, one threat and I'd be quiet as a mouse....or I'd move real fast.
