i'm doing my first ar build and have settled on 6.8 spc II. anyone have good or bad input about this round. i watched a friend take several feral hogs up to 250 lbs with his. it was very impressive. one hog was 185 yards. 85gr barnes ttsx loads really put them down.

Skipper, The Rem 6.8 SPC to me seems to be a good one. The II is just a marking on the gun the cartridge is the same from what research I did. My son-in-law has a Rock River flat top in this caliber. I have not done any load developement as of yet. We have some Nosler 115gr in their Competition style bullets. what for factory round that he has shoot quite well in it. These have been 110 and 115 grain loadings. If you plan on using it for hogs you should do well with this cartridge. There is load data that goes up to 130 grain but for my own preference I would go up to 120 grain and Hornady makes this in their SST line. I don't know if they have this in their new tip as of yet.

I know very little about the 6.8, how ever your choice of barrels and twist rate will lead you in the direction of your best bullet weight although the monolithic bullets tend to be longer per weight . Next will come the propellant choice. Good luck and have fun!

Skipper, I forgot to mention that if you can get a copy of Lyman's AR Reloading Handbook. This give a broad spec on reloading this caliber. Hornady and Nosler have data in their respected manuals as well. You can also check Hodgdon's site as well.

Just an update to this. "dskipper" I don't know if you have this build done or not. I just received my copy of Lyman's 50th Reloading Handbook and they have some loads in it. They also mention 6.8 SPC II. the II pertains to the chamber. The II chamber has more free bore than the standard SAAMI chamber. The II chamber is .050 longer than the standard one.
