Yes Happy Independence Day to all here at the 2A house. Over 240 years ago the fight for Independence was fought at great cost of life. The people of that time wanted freedom and not to be under the boot of tyranny. So the Founding Fathers of our country went to war against this tyranny and won they also did not want those that would be in our government not to have that same kind of power. They knew that "Power Corrupts and Absolute Power Corrupts Absolutely" Since then we have seen people in power that have become corrupt by it. These are the people that once they are in a high office that they want to rule the people and some have tried to rule the world. See it even today with certain people in high office and those that wish to and even run for high office that once in they get the king or dictator complex. So in today's environment one needs to keep a sharp eye and ear out to see what is going on local and at the national level. We are on a slippery slope and I pray we don't slide down the abyss.

Give me a place to stand and a long-enough lever, and I will invariably break the lever.

Hacker, have a great Fourth-everyone else as well. Your comments are well-taken. One of the things I do in my American Government classes is to make them read (gasp) the Declaration and Constitution. The talent that gathered in Philadelphia to produce those two documents is sobering, when you considered they drew on a population of 3 million. Consider that we have in excess of 300 million today, and look who we get for Presidential nominees. Finally, consider the difficulty I have in explaining the concept of "sacred honor"... Wow.
Ok, it's safe. I'm off my soapbox ! Have fun with your families, indulge in fireworks, but tak a minute and read the document.
