I was watching an Auction on GunBroker this weekend for a Smith & Wesson M&P15OR that my local shop had on there. I had thought about getting an AR for awhile but just never wanted to spend the cash but with all of the threats coming out of Washington again I figured now was the time.
Any way I checked the local shops website and found that they sell this rifle for $899.99 in the store. The current bid was in the low $600 range at the time so I put in a couple of bids before winning. I ended up at $682.77 at the end so I think I did well. I'll try to go pick it up tomorrow.
Now seeing this is my first experience with the AR platform I'm sure I have ALOT to learn. The gun comes without any sights so when funds allow that's where I need to start. I have trouble getting my eyes to focus on iron sights any more so some type of optic is in store. Do any of you have a preferred optic for the AR platform or will any rifle scope work?

John, Congrats on the score well done. Most iron sights on these is of the aperture/peep. since you will go with an alternative there are scopes made for the AR platform that should hold up to the more constant recoil. Here is a link for you to look over for starters. ar15scopecenter.com/ The Nikons that are mentioned in the above link I do believe that Cabela's sell these. You will have to check their site out. Most of my friends have red dots on theirs and price for these range from cheap all the way up to Holy Crap!!! For these I suggest you go on line and check out reviews for these and don't go by price alone.

Give me a place to stand and a long-enough lever, and I will invariably break the lever.

JB- nice score. I don't know about your usage and proposed range, but if I were in the market, I'd look at one of those holographic sights. Don't forget to have fun !
